Notley applauds B.C. approval of Trans Mountain

Post by maryjane48 »

British Columbia’s decision to grant environmental approval to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion is “good news for Alberta,” a smiling Premier Rachel Notley said Wednesday.

At a news conference, Notley told reporters she had been “hopeful” and “optimistic” B.C. would green-light the project and was proud of her government’s role helping to make it a reality.

Clark’s government reached a revenue-sharing deal with Kinder Morgan that will see the company pay B.C. up to $1 billion- the weed industry in bc is expected to generate a billion in sales every year like colorado

When asked about Fonda’s visit, Notley suggested the actor “doesn’t know what she’s talking about” and didn’t take advantage of her government’s offer to talk to her about both its climate and energy policies.

You can bet it's coming. It takes The Rebel a while to write a new article, all that endless pouring through dictionaries and thesauruses to find enough big words to give them the illusion of competence.

Safe bet they've got Jane Fonda in their cross hairs at the moment. I might break protocol and actually read that one. It should be a scream.

Rebel Media hosts Robbie Picard on his encounter with Hanoi Jane.

This is the article from Ft. McMurraytoday that contains Picard’s video of his 'rude' interjection into a CBC interview.

Features Robbie Picard’s cellphone video of Hanoi Jane with her mouth is hanging open and then his confrontation over ‘Aboriginal Businesses’ results in her sticking her nose in the air and walking away.

Yes, so unlike your completely unbiased pronouncement. Anyway, who cares what political affiliation he is. How about this?

Under the Harper Conservative government, two entirely new oil pipelines were approved and actually built: The non-XL version of Keystone, from Alberta to Nebraska, approved in 2006, completed in 2010; and The Alberta Clipper, to Wisconsin, approved in 2008 and active in 2010. The changeover in Line 9 taking oil west to east was also approved and activated under the Harper Tories. In total, Alberta got an added 1.25-million barrels a day worth of pipeline capacity under the last government.

The Liberals will add just half that much — 600,000 barrels — with the approval of Trans Mountain’s expansion. That’s if it actually gets built in the face of so much protest. You see, under the Tories, Northern Gateway, worth 500,000 barrels a day, was also approved, but the Liberals caved to protests and cancelled it — actually proving the point that a pipeline approval is a far cry from “getting it done.”

Yes, good for her. But to say that somehow she's getting stuff done while her predecessors didn't is just plain lying, and revisionist garbage. Shame on all who do it.

Arguably, the unions themselves have yielded similar results. :raspberry:

Umm...so why is Notley poo-pooing Keystone XL, saying it's a job killer?

KXL is no different from KM or any other pipeline in what it ships away from Alberta.

Is it solely because it was a Republican approval rather than a Liberal approval? I think so.

Despite what Notley said in that video Rwede posted, she appears to have changed her mind now:
Premier Rachel Notley is pleased with approval of the Keystone XL pipeline but says the province will keep a close watch for the possible renegotiation of the project's terms by the new U.S. administration.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed two executive orders allowing the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.

After signing the order, Trump indicated that the Keystone project's terms could be renegotiated.

At a news conference in Edmonton, Notley said the government needs to watch what Trump means though she is heartened the new administration appears to understand the close trade relationship between Canada and the U.S.

"Am I completely unconcerned? No," she said. "Do we continue to monitor this very closely? Will we continue you to monitor this very closely? Will we devote quite a bit of attention to engaging in with officials in the U.S.? Absolutely."

Trump's decision to move ahead on Keystone was welcomed as a good first step in bolstering the struggling oil and gas economy, Notley said. But she said her government will still work to get pipelines built to the Pacific and Atlantic coasts so Alberta crude can be shipped to new offshore markets.

"While discussions around Keystone XL progress, we are focused on building Canadian pipelines to Canadian tidewater," Notley said.

Though Canadian projects are her government's priority, Notley acknowledged the importance of Keystone XL during a time of economic uncertainty.

"We're at the point now where the Alberta economy needs to be enjoying the benefits of a higher return for our oil and gas ... And so that is definitely something that will happen as a result of the Keystone."

"It's not that we haven't been a fan of the Keystone XL, it's that it hasn't been a priority. For us, our view has been that first of all, we need to diversify our markets ... so our focus has been about getting Canadian access to Canadian tidewater."
