Sadly, it is doubtful the evening ratings won't sky rocket for CTV's Power Play...

everyone's tails are up and noses glued to their respective screens watching the US News (entertainment) Channels

featuring the goings-ons in the minute to minute political foray exploding south of the border...lol

Canadian politics, in comparison, is rather mundanely ho-hum...yyyaaaawwwn.

Spurred by the possibility that he could take the conservative leadership on the first ballot, the knives have come out for Maxime Bernier.

Anthony Furey attempts to inject some common sense: http://www.calgarysun.com/2017/05/08/fu ... as-it-gets

Putting aside his childish vitriol about the evolution of events that are obviously beyond his comprehension, Lawrence Martin does a pretty good job of framing Michael Chong's virtues as a CP leadership candidate.

Chong’s the best choice to revive the Conservatives

Chong is a work in progress: votes against marriage rights and then votes not to re-open the issue; thinks that Canadians should embrace a common identity, but votes against recognizing the simple fact that the Québécois already have one.

If he ever figures out who he is and what he stands for, he might be interesting.

Hopefully the Conservative Party of Canada does not elect the candidate from the bottom of the barrel, we have far to many already of both sides of the border.

The 13 candidates vying to lead the federal Conservatives make their final pitches to party faithful today — at which point, the marathon leadership race will be all over but the crying for 12 of them.

Bernier is viewed as more extreme than Harper by the left though. Harper believed in compromise and incremental change while Bernier want to do away with the milk board, etc. and other libertarian measures without backing down or downplaying as Harper had done.

No matter who wins the leadership, you know the Liberals will be labelling him (or her) an extremist.

We need Bernier. His plan to eliminate the Medicare transfers to the provinces and slash the taxes on the rich is good old style conservative thinking. Attack Medicare. Go right after the left's most sacred cow and kill it. The population of Canada will rejoice and guarantee him a three term Reich. Who do these socialists think they are trying to have the nanny-state take care of their health care. Get rid of Medicare and let the free enterprise system do the job that God intended: survival of the rich.

impo what the Conservative Party of Canada needs to rebuild from within is Joe Clark type of Leader, is one of the candidates along those lines. If so they should elect that person.

What's so great about Joe Clark? If he were the idea, why did he only last about 8 seconds as Prime Minister?
