The man was stabbed to death doing his job. I don't see how his criminal record and/or pending charges adds anything to the story. It just seems completely irrelevant. Why not bring up the criminal record (if any) of the accused?

There is no nexus between the victim's criminal history and his murder so it's really just journalistic fluff. (FAKE NEWS?)

I think of it this way: If this man did not have any previous police or criminal dealings, would the media have wasted their time publishing a story about his lack thereof? And if he does have a criminal record, does that make him any less of a victim?

This includes creating their own headline and tailoring the article.
