Canada is fine

Post by maryjane48 »

Canada ended a shaky year for its economy on a strong note, growing at an annual rate of 2.6 per cent in the final three months of 2016, stronger than the 2 per cent economists had largely been expecting.

I was thinking "yay, some good news" but then there's this:
One notable negative in the report was the decline in business investment, which fell 2.1 per cent in the quarter and has overall been lacklustre since the oil price collapse.

Since business investment is a key driver of job growth, those numbers suggest a weak job market in the months to come.

Well, let's hope the news is better than expected next quarter, too.

imagine how well Canada would be doing if our brain-dead PM wasn't bringing in a carbon tax.

Can you post a link to that $90/barrel....their cost of production is much lower.

Unfortunately, the only other party to vote for is full of brain-dead morons that would not only keep the status quo but increase the carbon taxes. The NDP needs to die, in order that the people of BC can vote for an option that can get rid of the Liberals, without having to worry that an even worse party run by complete idiots like Horgan would take power.

Agree, don't know where these numbers come from a few years ago the break even for most oil sand producers was round $50/barrel and they have been a lot of productivity enhancements since then. ANd the new break even according to CBC review effective October 2016 is;

Two years of cost cutting may appear to have brought costs low enough that the major oilsands players can spin decent cash flow at sub-$50 US oil, but that typically only takes into account the facility costs — those incurred on the project to produce a barrel of oil, but not to dilute it for shipment, nor transportation costs, capital costs or head office costs.
When those expenses are included, Birn said, the break-even point for existing projects ranges between $30 and $40 a barrel.

Technology and knowledge on how to mine the oil sands has continually been upgraded.

Uh no. Canada is always going to need a third party to keep us from descending into the Hellish depths of becoming a parody of the American two-party system that they are locked into until Kingdom Come. No matter how many "loons, leftist brain dead, moronic, People" you care to count.

You could argue that third party could be a different one, a new third party, I'll give you that much.
