RCMP Union
I was once a police officer in another country. We adopted the Police Association model from the Queensland Police. It was extremely successful.
The Police Association provided legal counsel for free if you encountered an incident that needed legal backing while on duty. The Queens Counsel was the best you could hire. A committee would decide if you were covered legally due to an incident off-duty.
The Association administered first rate health plans, including Psychological counselling.
Bought and maintained fully furnished vacation homes in resorts for cheap rental which was an absolute luxury for a young families.
Advocated for conditions, policing numbers and salaries including overtime bargaining etc.
Negotiated Pensions.
Provided a spokesperson within the ranks to support or criticise Police strategy.
Were an invited "voice" before the senate and parliament.
Provided instant a credit union with membership interest rates. (lower than banks).
Instigated a leave pool bank for those officers off on extended leave e.g. PTSD, bereavement and family sickness etc
Membership was not compulsory but recommended. The membership was 98%. The Association was only for those non-commissioned ranks. The envy of commissioned officers.
It baffles me that the RCMP never had an Association sooner. It will make the police more transparent and represented.

Re: RCMP Union
The RCMP currently has the same bargaining rights as they did when they originally marched west.

Re: RCMP Union
Currently, RCMP officers have voluntary associations funded by members' dues that work with management to establish pay and benefits, but top brass maintains full control over the final result.

Re: RCMP Union
Speaking to an RCMP friend has confirmed that there is no such association currently representing the RCMP at all. They used to have a group that worked kind of like your local health and safety committee at your work that provided issues to management but did not have any authority or even a seat at the table to discuss issues. All decision were imposed by management with no discussion.
Looks like there will be a group according to the news but again as of now there's nothing.

Tell him to invite Greg O'Connor over from Christchurch, New Zealand. Would shortcut your process!
Greg is the former President of the Police Association, now retired and likely to become an MP.
