Canada needs to be ready for end of oil

Post by maryjane48 »

But according to research released shortly after that announcement, the world is on the verge of an electrifying change that will have a cascading effect on the entire global energy industry — and even OPEC isn't big enough to stand in its way.

Canada should position itself to benefit for hundreds of years from cheap oil, as Europe and other extremely stupid countries switch to high-cost and horribly stupid sources like wind and solar, and commit economic and actual suicide.

No one is saying we should not invest in renewable resources. No one is saying that oil use is not going to decline. What we are saying is to do it properly so there is a seamless change over not a disaster. Things like site C are an important part of making that changeover work properly.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

not sure why it matters but they actually they have a pretty darn low death rate

Don't really see why it's stupid to use renewable energy sources. What seems stupid to me is investing in finite solutions to something we will be using infinitely.

You do realize that Norway is one of the top oil producing countries in the world and a lot of their social programs, pensions, Government funding, etc. is provided by the Norwegian Petroleum Fund, don't you?

I agree mostly with what Smurf wrote however we need far far more incentive for moving to cleaner energy.
People are to short sighted to make it happen now on an individual basis.

Yep, lots of cheap oil, and of course that cheap oil is going to really help the Canadian economy, where we export far more oil than we consume. Of course, cheap oil also results in cheap energy, which is another thing we export. All great news for the Canadian economy.

This post is hilarious once you realize is the 15th largest producer of oil in the world by volume...

I know this may come as news to you, but Europe is not a country, not only that, but some of it is doing significantly better economically than Canada, despite having far higher population density and fewer natural resources per capita

It might as well be as the EU runs Europe now as a corrupt and disgusting un-elected leftist bureaucracy.

Lol! I suspect that you haven't been there in quite a long time (if ever). The European Parliament is a directly elected governing body, and the European Commission is indirectly elected (appointed by the government of the country they represent). Doesn't sound un-elected to me.

As for being corrupt, I have seen little to no evidence to suggest it is any worse than a typical government, and plenty to suggest that it is not. Additionally, to call it leftist is just daft. It is certainly more liberal than Canada, and runs a more well regulated market with much greater internal competition. They may have better social programmes, better workers' rights, stronger consumer protection, but that just generally works for them. Honestly, it is one of the better run governments in the World.
