Reinstate Capital Punishment:
I believe there can not possibly be a better argument for re-instating capital punishment than this:
http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/police-try ... -1.3511294
A 13 year old girl was murdered recently and someone is going to plead "insanity" or "temporary insanity" and once again serve little time AND get escorts out after a certain amount of time. Like someone else we know.
If Sheer added a platform to look into re-instating capital punishment, I'd vote Conservative. Seriously.

As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Re: Reinstate Capital Punishment:
While I can fully understand the sentiment, there are too many downsides to capital punishment - the justice system makes mistakes too.
What we DO need to consider is a constitutional revamp that recognizes that public safety is a human right too.
That's really the part where our human rights charter and laws are a failure. The basic concept being that my rights end where yours begin. The second concept is that if a person chooses to violate the rights of others, or is incapable of recognizing the rights of others - then their top tier rights are forfeit.
It would have to be carefully worded yet explicit, but would take all the namby pamby out of the justice system - which is somewhat of a joke in how it treats predatory behaviour, regardless of the type.
The way our charter system works now, it hamstrings our justice system. The basic "logic" embedded in our charter system is that all people exhibiting criminal behaviour are candidates for rehabilitation. That's the same faulty logic as saying "some dogs have spots, therefore all dogs have spots".
Such a distinction (or set of distinctions) would clarify the system and allow simple concepts such as "lock him up and throw the key away" to actually function.

Personally I think that they should give the victoms family 30 minutes in the same room as the guilty with their choice of toys.

If I am one of the victims they better have some good trauma doctors on site. Or not.

Your choice of cases is unfortunate since even in a capital punishment jurisdiction they don't execute persons deemed insane.

Re: Reinstate Capital Punishment:
while a proposal to restore the death sentence by a leftist demigod like Trudeau might only induce the media to stop sucking his toes long enough to mew some form of disapproval, such a pledge from a conservative leader would amount to political suicide.
Any mention by Sheer of Marrisa's murder in conjunction with the possibility of a death sentence would be met with media outrage and hysterical accusations of exploitation of the tragedy to further conservatives' nefarious desire to send innocent victims of our racist, homophobic, misogynistic, Islamophobic (you name it) society to the gallows.
A life sentence should be just that. There should be no possibility of parole to torture the friends and families of murder victims. One small mercy we might consider would be an option for anyone serving a life sentence to request assisted suicide.

Re: Reinstate Capital Punishment:
Observing the USA,
1. Capital Punishment has not been shown to be a deterrent.
2. Innocent people have been put to death
3. Capital Punishment cases are extremely expensive, and only a very small percentage of the death sentences are ever carried out.

I just have to butt in for a minute. Number 1 on that list always cracks me up. HOW DO THEY KNOW? I know for a fact there are a few people walking around because someone didn't want to meet Old Sparky.
