Economy Beats Expectation

Economy Beats Expectation

Postby bob57 » Aug 31st, 2017, 7:26 am

Perhaps it is my "Glass half empty" thinking but does the majority of consumers feel the economy is doing as statistics say. I don't feel as though my dollar is going as far as I am told.Perhaps if I did not pay 43% of my income on taxes it might feel like products are more affordable. We find prices on essential goods are still high. Rent has gone up not sideways or down. Maybe it's just me but I can't see how the economy is how the government says it is.

That's not how GDP works.

GDP is a measure of value added through economic process, not how much things cost.
In fact increased consumer spending be it volume or simply a price increase contributes to an increase of GDP.
