You claim math is hard for leftists, but I didn't have to read this twice to know that you wish for Scheer to win.
Please edit "Horgan" to "Premier Horgan" to show solidarity towards a successful tenure. Remember: The NDP Government: 2017 thread is not in the Bickering Room.

if I was a card carrying member of the party Jagmeet is the best pick for the NDP he is smart and the young people of the party seem to like him. He will bring a new start for his party and open the door for others.

Because 60% of Canada does not agree with the right wing conservative ideology. 60% of Canada is, as you would call them, left wing. It's just a matter of how left.

I would suggest the majority of Canadians are moderate - wanting accountability from government while still standing for Canadian values of diversity, tolerance and collective well-being. On the political spectrum these folk can be found at the left, center-left, center and even center-right. However, to the extremist alt-right posters here everything else is left.

A personal family friend and left-leaner, Terry, has a good article on Singh.

Singh not what NDP socialists wanted in a leader — and that's a good thing

Only a small minority know who this guy is.
I see an even more bleak existence for the federal NDP, they will long for the good old days of feisty Mulcair.

More than 60% of Canada didn't vote for Trudeau.

Party Leader %
Liberal Justin Trudeau 39.5%
Conservative Stephen Harper 31.9%
New Democratic Tom Mulcair 19.7%
Bloc Québécois Gilles Duceppe 4.7%
Green Elizabeth May 3.5%

More than 60% of Canada didn't vote for Trudeau.

Party Leader %
Liberal Justin Trudeau 39.5% "Left Wing"
Conservative Stephen Harper 31.9% Right Wing
New Democratic Tom Mulcair 19.7% Left Wing
Bloc Québécois Gilles Duceppe 4.7% "Left Wing"
Green Elizabeth May 3.5% Left Wing

You're right, ~60% of Canadians didn't vote for Trudeau, but after the election Trudeau's support remained high, because even those who didn't vote for him still find his policies closer in line with their preferred choice. As opposed to Harper who wasn't voted by 60% and continued to lack support from the majority of canadians as his ideologies flew in the face of the popular opinion.

It's no surprise that all the conservative parties in Canada tend to have to merge together or collapse in favour of other parties in order to scrape enough support out of the electorate.

This is also why conservatives so staunchly oppose electoral reform, or ranked ballots. Because Liberal supporters will likely put NDP or Green as their choices 2 and 3. NDP Supporters will likely put Liberals and Greens as their choices 2 and 3. But none will select conservatives, who will only put Conservative as choice 1, leaving choices 2 and 3 blank.

Dude, you're smart enough to know that the world is not binary and static. I'm sure you know about the political spectrum, which in itself is only a simplistic representation of reality. It is spectrum, so you have many "right-wing" people voting for "left wing" parties, and similarly, many "left wing" people voting for "right wing" parties.

1 + 1 never equals 2. With the possible exception of 2015 when close to 60% of the population would vote for anyone-but-Harper (even many on the "right"), it's not even close to 2. In fact, sometimes 1 +1 is sometimes equal to 0.8. If the NDP were to fold in Kelowna, all those who voted NDP would not go to the Liberals or Greens. Not even close.

A significant percentage of the population is nether left nor right, many of which are apolitical. These people could vote for anyone.

https://questioningthedata.wordpress.co ... is-a-myth/

Note: Yes, I'm saying that close 60% of the population did vote against Harper in 2015, which is probably double that who voted against Trudeau. In 2011, it was probably closer to 40 to 45% who voted against Harper.
