I guess he should never have a vacation eh?
How about we let the probe happen and react to the results based on facts and not reading into reports.
There's some pretty smart people already looking into this and if wrong has been done then he should be dealt with according to law.
If there's not then so be it.
Unfortunately he does work for us and does deserve a vacation once and a while. Because he's our Prime Minister then he must have security and all the stuff that comes with. It costs money.

Nobody objects to the man having a vacation; that's not the issue. The issue is that he broke the Parliamentary code of ethics by flying in a private plane that belonged to someone who has financial ties with our Government. And he also accepted other hospitality from this person.
Accepting gifts from someone who is lobbying the Government for funds doesn't pass the ethical smell test. Government leaders not only have to BE squeaky clean, they have to be SEEN to be squeaky clean. And our Prime Minister should know that.

Re: Trudeau Face Consequences
I agree totally, Merry.
As he's sliding down that slippery slope to his own destruction, and possibly ours, he squeaks, uuhms, ahws, and glances from side to side possibly wondering how on earth did he get into a position of responsibility. (drama teacher to leader of a country?)
He also did a vanishing act when the whistleblower leaked about the Khadqar payout. Off to Ireland, was our boy. No word yet whether he found the dastardly minion who dared take some polish off the shine.
The whole episode and all the others don't pass the sniff test.
Begone, black spot, begone!!

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: Trudeau Face Consequences.
Federal ethics commissioner Mary Dawson has concluded that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau violated conflict of interest rules when he vacationed last Christmas at the private Bahamian island owned by the Aga Khan.
Dawson says in a report today that Trudeau’s vacation broke conflict of interest law that prohibits a minister or any member of their family from accepting gifts or “advantages” that could reasonably be seen as influencing government decisions.
The only exception is if the person providing the gift is a friend, but Dawson says that exception didn’t apply in this case.
Dawson says the Aga Khan and his foundation were registered to lobby Trudeau’s office in December 2016, meaning the vacation “could reasonably be seen to have been given to influence Mr. Trudeau in his capacity as Prime Minister.”
Dawson also concludes that Trudeau broke the ethics code when he travelled on the Aga Khan’s private helicopter.
Moreover, she says Trudeau didn’t properly recuse himself on two occasions in May 2016 from sensitive government meetings about the Aga Khan and a $15-million grant to the endowment fund of the Global Centre for Pluralism.

OK, so Trudeau has been found guilty by the ethics commissioner. Now what happens? Will he face any consequences? He ought to, but will he?

Finally!! A bone for y'all to chew on.
Meanwhile things are good in Canada with the economy and all, and the Libs would easily win a MAJORITY if an election were held.

Trudeau broke the law and ought to face the consequence. But will he? Or will he get away with it?

Ya, cause here in Canada, and especially here in BC, we never tolerate any sort of impropriety or malfeasance from our elected officials and have always insisted on full and immediate accountability no matter what party. Oh ya, .. wait.

Dawson’s report notes, however, that there is no evidence Trudeau actually advanced the private interest of the Aga Khan or any institution he controls.
In a surprise press conference in the House of Commons Wednesday, a contrite Trudeau apologized and said he will be clearing all personal travel with the ethics commissioner.

Which is a totally inadequate amount when we're talking about the potential for political influence (particularly at the Prime Ministerial level).
Trudeau is a millionaire; $500 is a drop in the bucket to someone like him.

Whether he actually advanced the interests of the Aga Khan or not is beside the point. Trudeau broke the rules and should face the consequence, a simple apology is not enough.
Even though a fine of $500 or less is inadequate for this type of offense, Trudeau should still be required to pay it. Because the law is the law, and should be applied equally to all who break it. But, after he's paid it, Parliament should consider increasing the penalty for all future such law breakers. $500 is a joke for serious conflict of interest violations at such a high level.

Re: Trudeau Face Consequences.
There was another item in the news regarding something similar I think, and the fine was paid of $200.00. There has been plenty of time to review the fines so I doubt anything further will come of this.Merry wrote:Whether he actually advanced the interests of the Aga Khan or not is beside the point. Another earlier news item:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ethics- ... -1.3937269
Provisions which allow for a $500 fine for violations of the act do not apply to the sections in question. That means the maximum penalty Trudeau could face is a "notice of violation,"

Excerpt from an article in the National Post back in January
http://nationalpost.com/news/politics/t ... hics-probe
I'm sure the Liberals are hoping that the fact the news about Trudeau being guilty didn't break until a few days before Christmas will help the scandal simply disappear. However, I doubt they'll be that lucky, because this is serious stuff, with wide reaching implications.
Government ministers accepting expensive gifts from individuals who stand to benefit from potential future legislation is a very serious matter.
The maximum sanction that Dawson may levy for a violation of the Act is $500 per violation — a relatively paltry sum for a prime minister who earns more than $350,000 a year and gets a free home.
But while Trudeau might easily pay any fine, the political penalty may be more expensive. The opposition is almost certain to have a field day if Trudeau becomes the first prime minister in Canada’s history to violate a federal statute — a statute on ethics and conflict of interest, no less — while in office.
The commissioner’s office and the current Conflict of Interest Act were creations of the Harper government in 2007. While Harper was accused by his opponents several times of unethical behaviour, he was neither the subject of any investigation nor any finding of any violation of the act during his time in office.
