The Aga Khan trip and a glimpse into Trudeau’s bad judgment

The glimpse was enough to horrify me. It's shockingly obvious that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Of course you're horrified. You cr*p your pants over anything he does. Makes it hard to care about stuff like this when you're constantly crying wolf.

yes. You heard it here folks. Your leader commits serious ethical breaches, and anyone who talks about it is "crying wolf". What's next? Hey there Kim Jong, is that your hand on the ignition switch or am I just "crying wolf"?

a relative in Manitoba sent me this link:

GRUNTHAL, MB

After being found guilty of violating numerous federal ethics laws by vacationing on the Aga Khan’s private island, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that all upcoming Trudeau family vacations will take place in the small Mennonite town of Grunthal, Manitoba.

“There’s no way anyone can accuse me of taking advantage of my position if I’m sleeping on the side of the road near Grunthal in my station wagon,” said Trudeau. “From now on it’s knackzoat at the pits, not lobster in the Bahamas.”

Trudeau had also considered taking the family to Kleefeld and Blumenort, but felt that those locales might be perceived as a little too high class.

“No more fat cat vacations for me. I’ve got to stay as far from billionaires as possible,” said Trudeau. “Though I’ll still have to be careful; I hear some of those hog farmers around there are just rolling in it.”

Trudeau was initially flustered by the question, but said he plans to have his Grunthal vacation pre-approved by the Ethics Commissioner.

“Abie Krahn has been a friend of the Trudeau family for decades,” said Trudeau. “So, if I want to strip down to my jean shorts and swim around in his gravel pits during the August long weekend, I don’t think anyone should stop me!”
Trudeau has already rented a storage locker in Grunthal, which he has filled to the brim with two-fours of Lab Lite in preparation for his glamorous gravel pit vacation.

There's far, far more to come about ethics and Trudeau's breaking of the law. The timing of the releases will be much more beneficial for Canadians though, as 2019 nears and people start to pay a small bit of attention to what's been happening in, and to, their country for the past four years. Stay tuned, I expect even some of the Justin lapdogs will start to question their crappy choices soon enough.

The only shockingly obvious thing here is the lengths at which you are willing to go to bring down Justin Trudeau. Not just the government but the person.

GF, what would you have left to post about if it did? :135:

And thanks for letting Jflem answer a question I asked you. What constitutes a "commie" again? Hint: I asked you not Jflem!

Trudeau was hoping for a distraction tour, but Canadians are calling him out for the law-breaking slimeball he is.

Methinks that given the lack of engagement by most Canadians in day-to-day politics, and the general attitude from many I talk to that ALL politicians are scumbags, that any political consequences for Trudeau will be minor, if even noticeable.

Yes indeed, such issues will resonate with tribal Conservatives in the base, but none of them would vote Liberal to begin with. The tribal Conservative base will, of course, conveniently forget the likes of Bev Oda and Dean Del Mastro, and be all excited about this issue. But how does that help the Conservative party change the dynamics that lost them the last election?

For many of the swing voters that Trudeau and the Liberals garnered, they are getting exactly what they wanted, a somewhat lightweight PM that will stub his toe on minor stuff but set a moderate and positive tone. Tribal Conservatives screaming from the rooftops over what is perceived by many as minor fluff up will not gain the Conservatives any traction, especially as it will bring out the tribalism in the left of center to left that Trudeau and the Liberals rely on.

It may even be counter productive in a stronger way. The NDP dumped the perfect foil for JT in Thomas Mulcair, a serious type who would be unlikely to get caught up in such gaffs, and with a relatively moderate policy outlook. So far, it appears that Jagmeet is a really nice fellow, but entirely ineffective. Assuming that remains the case, there will be a lot of "soft" NDP voters without a reason to stick with the NDP. If the Conservatives appear to be gaining ground with the center right, then those "soft" NDP voters, who absolutely hated Harper and his "strongman" abrasive approach, may swing into the Liberals from the left as n anti-Conservative strategic vote.

The only real hope for the Conservatives is to develop and show a commitment to a more progressive conservative set of policy alternatives. Having picked Sheer, and him using Skippy Poilievre as his lieutenant, there is no sign at all that the Conservatives will do what is needed to actually make JT's minor indiscretions stick.

The only other hope for the Conservatives is a downturn in the economy, but there just hasn't been anything cohesive from the Conservatives on the economic front, and despite the "inside game" goofs by JT and Morneau, most Canadians appear to be doing well at the moment, and the Conservatives are certainly not in a position to take advantage of things like $15/hr movement.

So while in other circumstances, the Aga-Khan story might resonate, I believe that most Canadians will wind up viewing the whole affair (given a little time - which there is) as just the tribal Conservatives howling at the moon.

^^^ So it seems to me that your solution to the Conservative's problems is to have the same political policies as the Liberals so that when people go in the polling both, they just randomly pick between the two. Here's a theory, no amount of policy changes will defeat Trudeau. Trudeau, after all, campaigned to the left of the NDP last time, and still won in a landslide. In order to actually defeat Trudeau, you have to actually propose things that make more sense than the Liberals. You can't just mimic the party in power, and expect to defeat them. The more likely way Trudeau will get defeated is that the voters will get tired of him after 10 or 15 years as the do with all political parties in power eventually.

Let's face it. Nothing will happen to him.

Look at all the controversies he's been involved with already and still, support for him is pretty high. Basically, it doesn't matter if you're a terrible leader and a terrible person... as long as you're not Harper.

I was re-reading some of the comments in this thread, and this comment in particular struck a chord with me, because it has turned out to be almost prophetic (despite being posted as long ago as last Sept).

When I first read the comment back in Sept I was sure that Trudeau WOULD be formally penalized in some way for breaking the law. I didn't know what form the penalty would take, but I was certain that there would be one. However, time has proven me wrong, and that those in high office ARE sometimes above the law in this country.

If any other MP had broken the same law as many times as Mr. Trudeau did, he would have been asked to resign (at the very least), and chances are that the police would have laid charges as well. But Trudeau hasn't even been asked to reimburse taxpayers for the money we spent on his unethical and illegal holiday, much less been formally charged or asked to resign.

His supporters still support him 100%, and make excuses for his unethical and illegal behaviour. Even though they would have roundly condemned the same behaviour if Stephen Harper had done it.

I disliked Stephen Harper intensely, and was greatly relieved when he lost the election. But that doesn't mean I support a different PM who, albeit for different reasons, is equally undeserving of the office. Illegal activity is illegal activity, regardless of WHO does it. And ignorance of the law has never been considered an adequate defense for any other citizen. So WHY are we letting Trudeau off with a free pass? Does a pretty face, nice hair and a famous name make breaking the law in Canada OK these days?
