La Nina conditions will likely persist into 2018, but it is unlikely we will have such a strong el nino as 2015 which was biggest on record. GB, you may be right as well... ya never know how data and proxies will be used, manipulated to pre-ordain an outcome. I think I'll take this shot though. Cross your fingers ;-)

This is due to the Albedo Effect. White ice has a higher albedo and thus reflects more sunlight. Darker areas have a lower albedo and absorb sunlight and heat up.

As more ice melts, the overal albedo decreases, causing even more heat to be retained, and thus continue to melt the ice. It’s kind of a vicious cycle, and why a lot of scientists years ago believed we crossed a tipping point. Indeed year over year the total arctic ice, and total global ice levels have continued to decrease.

Climate does not equal weather. So just before there are any “smart” comments about the current temperature in some parts of BC (caused by a well understood meteorological phenomenon).

I will make a prediction that 2018 will beat out 2017 too, as the trend continues

Okie dokie so we have a bet going that 2018 will be hotter than 2017? Not necessarily the hottest year, but hotter than 2017? Ok, I'll take on that bet and say that with La Nina coming, and, we are heading towards a solar minimum, 2018 will be slightly cooler than 2017.

There are four main world thermometers: UAH and RSS (satellites) and GISS and HADCRUT4 (land based). I suspect that Omnitheo will want to wait until all four release their figures, and then pick the one that benefits him the most. Generally, that would be GISS, but not always.

Even according to GISS, 2017 was cooler than 2016, and the 2018 individual months were mostly lower than 2017. Still they are 6 months behind. Perhaps they need time to tamper with it ;-)
