Out of high school I worked there, lived behind the project in a tent. Had a number of locals who I became great friends with and yes, they were Indiginous. Again, mind your own and don't be pushing your chest out and you too can enjoy a beer or two in the Zoo beverage room.

If police are profiling it is because some neighborhoods are scary.
Hard to profile a rich suburb.
Much easier to find trouble in a slum.

Are you for real? Have you ever resided in Prince Albert?
Mind your own business and it is no more dangerous then Kelowna or any other City of 45000 people. Yes it may very well be a inner-city reserve as the population is over 50%.

IF for a moment you think it is dangerous because of the Penitentiary, the Provincial Jail or the Woman's Jail you are out to lunch.

I have to ask you, why is it dangerous? I grew up there and know it very well.

Met some really dangerous people from there. Thats what i based that on. The one guy beat a woman cop near to death. Has been locked up for years. Sorry shouldnt cast that on the town

If statistics say that (and I am not maikg any statement here about any group in particular) that one legged, blonde haired people over 6 feet tall are committing the bulk of petty crimes in a particular neighborhood, then it would make sense that those in charge of providing security/protection would pay more attention to those individucals than others.

That is how the world works. Always has and always will.

That guy might just be the dumbest LPO I have ever seen and I have seen some really dumb ones.

Interestingly, although it definitely used to be the case about profiling people based on race, its not standard or even commonplace now. Behavioral profiling has proven to be extremely successful when applied by state security/national security forces and its application has been passed to other avenues of security including the private sector.

A good example is counter terrorism - one seeks pre-incident indicators as opposed to race.

Shoplifting is another. If Race A steals more, focusing on them specifically leaves open every shoplifter that doesn't fit your concept of who a shoplifter is. This is why surveillance based on behaviour - or "profiling" - is actually standard now.

So no, its racial profiling is definitely not how the world works - in security operations, anyway.

Sure, if you like generalizing people. Apparently not all Natives share the same beliefs or the same stance about everything.

I agree that behavioral profiling is or can be, in the hands of the right people, a very effective tool but it is sophisticated and in many instances, is not practical because of its sophistication.

As for the comment about the hat, TIC my friend.

Wow. There's so much wrong with this post. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and your fear-mongering is completely unwarranted.

Prince Albert isn't quite dangerous. Like any city, there are good areas and bad areas.

People on these boards like to say that everyone should be treated equally and that Natives are benefiting from special treatment by the government. Yet it's beliefs like Jflem's that are exactly why the government needs to support the Native poplulation... because people like this don't treat them as equals and just go around spewing garbage about how dangerous they are.

The govt should support all people equally.....

A friend of mine who is a retired cop, is now the mayor of La Ronge. Every January for the last several years he an his wife travel with between 18 to 25 First Nations people to México for a vacation....
It’s sad when certain people on this forum need to use hyperbole to justify their bigotry.

It's is refreshing to see so many people on these forums actually getting sick and tired of seeing one side of a story and coming to an educated opinion. I mirror a lot of the responses in that there's clearly a whole lot more to the story.

As a former LPO in my life there are a lot of "indicators" that they look at with respect to loss prevention. ZERO of them are race based. For example people bringing in bags, empty strollers (yes I've seen that) big coats when its warm out etc.

Also there's probably a back story with respect to this individual and the fact that that LPO was not afraid to have his face shown and that he clearly was interested in this guy's actions show a larger story here. It would be nice to hear the store's side of the story.

Maybe the guy was observed stealing in the past and they're keeping an eye on him. I'm sure it's okay to follow a group of teens around in a store, as long as they're not members of a visible minority.

May very well have occurred, although no news on it in that City. Why I called BS was if it would have been PA which we were speaking of, I would have heard about it.

There will always be profiling why because it works. I would suggest there is more to the story and good for the TIGER for not playing the media game.

For the fellow who felt that way, I go else where and do your business there!
