Banks gouging ?

Re: Banks gouging ?

If he really doesn't want to pay it back then all he has to do is declare bankruptcy. Why go through the rest of this BS.

Seems like he is just looking for attention.
I have never tried Yoga but I bent over to pick up my keys once so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it.

I will put this story here as it speaks to the inhumane way banks view their customers

This guy borrows $170000, can't pay it back and the bank is willing to forgive over $150000 of the debt and you have the gaul to accuse the bank of being inhumane. This guy is a self absorbed idiot looking for sympathy, but he doesn't deserve any.

Of course they are but not one govt has done anything about it .if was me thete would be new regs by midnight

Gasp! A business making money? Are they gouging? I'm not certain. Are they gouging me? No. I have an acute awareness of what I'm paying and why. I read the fine print and make certain I understand before signing on.

Fact is, the better our banks do, the better a lot of others are. Shareholders, investors...even CPP has shares in the big banks. Be grateful they are doing well and hope they continue to do so. How do you think our country would go if the banks reported continual losses? This same report comes out every year, just change the dates and numbers.

Inhumane? Seriously? If that's how the world works then we'd all be able to borrow buckets of money and not pay it back.

I borrowed buckets of money for school too. I had to abandon my education just shy of finishing up my third degree due to serious illness. Does that mean I'm off the hook? Not at all. That's not how it works. Banks are business. They don't have magic money trees out back. They don't just say, "Poor thing. Just keep all that money, kay?" Your problems are not their problem and they did reduce his debt by 90%. That's more than most people could ever hope for and yet that's apparently not enough for this guy?

Because you think it’s inhumane for the bank to be demanding their money....amongst hundreds of other things that can be found in these forums. Where does trump and nuclear war come into play in this.......did that bubble burst tonight??

Anyone out there who has investments will have some bank stocks in their portfolios somewhere so in effect will get a good portion of what they pay in fees back. If not more, I do.

So MJ I'm happy you don't have any control over it.

My retirement will be better than if I didn't have bank stocks in my pension and RRSP's. Make as much money as you can, Big Banks.

Exactly and our stocks have more than doubled in the 10+ years since I retired.

As Canada’s big banks again gouge out record profits in past 3 months of $7.7 billion, nation-wide coalition broadens its letter-writing drive calling for federal government action to pass key bank accountability measures — more than 23,000 messages sent so far

Many goverment plans and programs have invested shares in the big banks both domestic and foreign so I guess that makes all Canadians complicit. Some people just don't realize what would happen to our country if the fiancial system operated in the red. Is the system perfect? No. Do some changes need to be looked at? Absolutely. Should more Canadians educate themselves before taking out loans or making investments? Definitely. Business is business. Its what makes the world go 'round in this day and age.

What would an acceptable profit level be for the banks MJ.

Should they just give any extra they have to global warming. Or maybe to native bands? Maybe they could fund you blogging to all your thousands of fans.
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

You have got to stand for something . Or you will fall for anything "Aaron Tippin"

The "said Canadians" have a choice to do business with a Credit Union or other banks that offer profit sharing. There's no law against Canadians doing business with whom ever they choose to

UPS.

Even so I think some of the blame lies with the customer. Over $800,000 to be given to him and he chooses to mail it instead of go to the bank. I would have been there in person.

I curious to see how this will be the banks fault, do tell; first remember that a bank draft is like handing someone cash, it doesn't expire and anoyone who gets a hold of it may spend it.
