To hobbyguy - given that we live in an earthquake zone I can't say I'm in favour of the nuclear option. Far too risky in my opinion.

It is quite obvious that you don't build nuclear reactors in earthquake zones. That means even BC has good options in the Peace area, and Alberta and east are pretty much out of the earthquake zone.

The new generations of nuclear reactors are safe, and we are falling behind because of irrational fears stirred up by propaganda. Energy supply is at the heart of the prosperity of nations, and China is leaping ahead of us. They are building 60 plus new generation reactors - largely because they don't have the false "environmentalist" paid lobbyists working against them. No emissions, safe, affordable price electricity - and lots of it.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

Even though this quake was minor, and admittedly was a few years ago, it does illustrate that even the Peace River Region is not earthquake free.

one area we completely agree on. I am all for "green" energy, as long as the numbers make sense. Math is hard, and so it's hard for those out there who just eat up the propaganda to do the math but intermittent power sources just don't make economic sense, and likely never will until battery storage is perfected, or at least made a whole lot better.

Even the older reactors are designed to withstand Richter scale 7.7 or higher. Even at Fukushima, it wasn't the earthquake that damaged the reactors, it was the tsunami. No tsunamis in the Peace. Japan has had a number of serious earthquakes, and none have caused the failure of a reactor, although for safety, their reactors are equipped with automatic earthquake shut downs.

But that is the kind of thing the phony paid "environmentalists" will gin up, they will run around with signs saying "earthquakes! Fukushima", even though the earthquake did not damage the Fukushima reactors.

What a bunch of peanut chucking blather from Scheer. Pick the phone Andrew, see how well you do trying to get anywhere with the lawless and corrupt BC NDP/LEAP and the village idiot George Heyman.

Well aside from interrupting a foreign meeting to sit down with Horgan and Notley to discuss and reiterate that it is going to happen because it is in Canada’s best interests. You can criticize Trudeau all you want for Horgon’s stubbornness. But at least he is trying. Tell me how much progress this project made under conservative governments? Tell me what you think should be done?

Easy to criticize, but not so simple to provide a solution that everyone will agree with.

Who says that there needs to be a solution that everyone agrees with? This will never happen, nor should it. If the lunatic enviro-nuts don't agree with the solution so be it. Screw those People. They won't stop trying to derail civilization until everyone is dead.

Actually, with regard to the pipeline, JT and crew have done a couple of things:

1. Waited patiently for the NC NDP/LEAP idiots to actually do something, which now the feds are challenging as intervenors in the court.

2. Made the case fairly decently that a balanced policy of transitioning away from from fossil fuels will require investments that we, as Canadians, need the oil sands to pay for. Done that well enough to flip the polls in favor of the pipeline - even in BC.

3. JT actually has gone to town halls in BC and faced up to the criticisms and looney toons BANANAs.

You need to remember that the likes of the far left BC NDP and the LEAP idiots are never going to compromise - which is what democracy is all about. They make their snollygoster livings by taking ridiculous positions and chucking peanuts, not actually considering the bigger picture.

Unfortunately Scheer has decided not to work with the Liberals to advance the pipeline, but more to use it to score cheap shot political points. That disappoints me in that those are the tactics and downfall of the NDP in general... using everything to chuck peanuts, and without a better alternative. Scheer knows full well that the BC NDP are a bunch of incompetent lunatics, and that no amount of reason will stop their childish games. He had the chance to elevate out of the schoolyard on this important issue - and didn't, instead choosing to make schoolyard taunts.

JT and the Liberals are far from perfect, but they are trying to strike a balance. Sniping from behind by Scheer is hardly constructive in trying to strike that balance.

CBC TV News tonight is all a-flutter because a Canadian ISIS fighter made a podcast in USA saying he participated in brutal killings overseas, Syria, by shooting victims through the head.

Abu al-kanadi is now recently back in Toronto, safe and sound.

Goodale assures and reassures us that Canadians safety is foremost in his mind, and that we will know all we "need" to know.

Added after 8 pm news broadcast:

JT just advised his belief that that killer ISIS members CAN be rehabilitated (should they choose to take that option).

Andy Scheer just spent the weekend schmoozing with Quebec speraratists, ex separatists, quasi-nationalists and pretty much anybody in Quebec who might be available. Mulroney got in bed with the separatists and so did Steve. Loyalty to the nation doesn't seem to matter when a few seats are at stake.

How I wish we could do without the whole lot of them. Drive them into a rising tide, begone, begone.
