BONOKOSKI: Kathleen Wynne tweet on auto sector a car wreck

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will never pass a driver’s test if her eyesight is really this bad.

Desperation often leads to miscues, of course, and no one needs to look any further than the tweet the premier posted Thursday throwing her support behind auto workers, and punctuating the alleged sanity of her minimum-wage edict.

“I’m fighting for workers by increasing the minimum wage,” she tweeted. “I’ve taken every opportunity to defend Ontario workers during NAFTA negotiations. I’m happy to hear that GM will be producing a new line of trucks in Oshawa.

“I keep fighting for the workers there & across Ontario.”

Below the tweet was a short video of a car coming off the assembly line in Oshawa.

Trouble is, the car being assembled was a Camaro, which hasn’t been manufactured in Ontario for over two years.

This was not simply a mistake. This was a gaffe.

To be certain the car was really a Camaro, a copy of the video was sent to Bob Rintoul, general manager of the Myers Automotive Group, among the largest Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC dealerships in the nation’s capital.

“The car in the video is indeed a Camaro,” replied Rintoul. “They are built in Michigan today, as they retool (the Oshawa plant) to build our pickup trucks.”

So, there you have it — from an expert in the world of Chevrolet.

The car’s a Camaro.

Either someone in Wynne’s comms department needs a battery boost, or the premier needs new glasses.

Our premier talks a good game, of course, but she either doesn’t know what she is talking about, or she doesn’t care.

It was back in November 2015, in fact, that the last Camaro rolled off the assembly line in Oshawa, bringing an end to five generations of manufacturing where every one of the Chevy muscle cars since 1992 had been Canadian-made.

It was big news at the time, with 1,000 GM employees in Oshawa either losing their jobs or being offered incentives to go away.

Maybe Wynne was simply confused, flustered and befuddled by her government’s penchant for entangling businesses in red tape, its role in skyrocketing electricity costs across the province, the selling of its cap-and-trade tax grab, and/or trying to hide the fact Wynne’s leadership has seen the loss in Ontario of 350,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs.

So many scandals, so much ineptness. But, when you are the leader of the most politically corrupt party to ever hold power in Ontario, it is tough keeping track of fact and fiction.

Duguid’s foil in the Progressive Conservative opposition, Monte McNaughton, was not without reaction to Wynne’s Camaro gaffe.

“Pretending to build cars in Ontario won’t help workers, or attract jobs and investment,” said McNaughton, the Tories’ economic development critic. “Kathleen Wynne and her Liberals are out to lunch or delusional.

“Her government long ago forced Camaro production out of Ontario. What she really owes workers is an apology.”

McNaughton noted, as well, that, while Wynne tweeted that Camaros were still being made in Ontario, Mazda and Toyota were announcing a massive investment in the United States that will see 4,000 jobs created and 300,000 cars built every year at a new plant in Alabama.

“Ontario missed the boat on this one, too.” said McNaughton.

“Again.”

Obviously people need to do their homework before posting i.e video in the tweet

Of course this reinforces my feelings on politicians..... vast majority are not that bright, especially Leadership (thats both Government & the Opposition).

Political parties tend to elect from the worst possible candidates there Leaders, just look around now.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.
