Eagles put on a show in Nova Scotia community

Post by oneh2obabe »

SHEFFIELD MILLS, N.S.—Dozens of eagles dot the branches of tall trees overlooking a snow-covered Nova Scotia farm field, a bitter wind cutting through their wings as they take turns leaving their perches to swoop through blue skies.

A photographer snaps a photo from the edge of the quiet country road in Sheffield Mills, where roughly 150 eagles and other birds of prey convene to take advantage of the region’s chicken farms, of which there are dozens.

The rural farming community, located roughly 100 kilometres northwest of Halifax, has become a destination for shutterbugs, wildlife enthusiasts and tourists looking to take in the impressive sight.

Pretty awesome to watch eagles swoop in for a meal - see it often fishing. Wish I had a photo of the dozens I saw in a tree down in the lower mainland. Don't think anyone believes me. Just wish the article had more video.

There is a couple living on Knox Mountain. One of them often perches on a tree in Sutherland Bay Park and grabs a carp every so often. Great to watch!

Watching eagles from a boat while fishing is a nice way to spend an afternoon.

I hope those chicken farmers don't shoot the Eagles or something!!!

They should really be protected so this does not become an issue. Its not the Eagles fault but I bet the will be the ones to pay for it.

Sad really

We saw 3 flying over the H2O center on Saturday. There is a nest on the Greenway not far from there.

That's worked out great for me!

It's interesting to watch them compete with the ospreys - sometimes the eagle gets lucky and sometimes it doesn't.
