We’re number two!

Certainly something to celebrate and be proud of.
A new ranking that evaluated countries on everything from economic influence, power, citizenship and quality of life, has declared Switzerland the world's best country for 2018, with Canada finishing runner-up.
It's the second time the Swiss have topped U.S. News & World Report's Best Countries report, which looked at 80 countries for this year's ranking.
After Switzerland, Canada, Germany, the U.K. and Japan round out the top five spots -- all countries with progressive social and environmental policies, analysts note.
New this year, respondents were also asked to evaluate major world leaders. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were deemed the most respected leaders globally, while U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin received the dubious distinction of receiving the worst approval ratings.
Certainly something to celebrate and be proud of.
"Dishwashers, the dishwasher, right? You press it. Remember the dishwasher, you press it, there'd be like an explosion. Five minutes later you open it up the steam pours out, the dishes -- now you press it 12 times, women tell me again." - Trump

I'm glad we've been climbing that list again we dropped a fair bit under Harper.
So much of the violent push-back on everything progressive and reformist comes down to: I can see the future, and in this future I am not the centre of the universe and master of all that I survey, therefore this future must be resisted at all costs.

The company who helped set up the model for how to rank the countries is a branding coperation. Just noting they didn't look at any economic achievements with high regard. The company took points directly from what it knows on how to build a brand, not a country. It's up to the reader to decide how similar brands and countries are.

I really wish the topic wasn't worded "We’re number two!" - I'd rather read "We're second".
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Where are all the Anti-JT enthusiasts to claim the only reason we're "number two" is Justin Trudeau?
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Those rankings are so subjective and biased I can't believe that anyone but a politician would start beating their chest over them.

It’s based on a global poll. It is the opinions of tens of thousands of people across the globe. What’s the bias you’re referring to? Are you suggesting they only polled people who already liked Canada?

Wondering if those who voted took into mind the long waiting lists for surgery, which no Government in this country really give a damn about.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

I know that nobody here likes to acknowledge the NDP but they’ve been screaming about this for years.

All I see in your links is talk, been hearing that same talk for 25+ years. Were is the actions/actual doing something about this problem. No changes in any of the Canadian Provinces.

Thousands of people across the globe. How did they form their opinions of Canada - from pictures in magazines? It's far more complicated than that and any country will be better than any other country in certain areas. You would probably be pretty safe to say that logically, Canada should finish ahead of places like Mexico, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc. But how could they say that Canada is better than Norway, Germany, Sweden, the US, Britain etc?
Canada has tons of pretty appalling problems and these polls are used by politicians to make it look like they're personally doing an amazing job and everyone should just shut up and be happy because we're number 2, or number 1.

Here’s the breakdown of their methodology. So you can see for yourself instead of making assumptions.

Unfortunately some people just can’t accept good news. Good growing economy, excellent job growth, lowest unemployment in 40 years. Internationally respected leader. All great things about Canada, but people like you just can’t accept it because it goes against your worldview. You could be happy we’re doing so well as a country right now, or you can continue to be miserable and cry about good news under the liberal government
