Unfortunately some people just can’t accept good news. Good growing economy, excellent job growth, lowest unemployment in 40 years. Internationally respected leader. All great things about Canada, but people like you just can’t accept it because it goes against your worldview. You could be happy we’re doing so well as a country right now, or you can continue to be miserable and cry about good news under the liberal government

USnews global survey is not my own press.

Stats and facts are not subjective either. Don’t fall into the trap of dismissing information because it doesn’t fit your ideological beliefs.

The survey is very subjective. I don't think you understand what the expression "don't believe your own press" means.

A more established and in my opinion well thought out ranking system has us a little lower down: http://www.prosperity.com/rankings

In that index, Canada has been consistently top 10. And yes, we dropped in 2017 primarily because of health care.

I have been working with a group advocating for health care reforms, and one of the interesting conclusions:

The way forward to reducing wait times for elective surgery, wait times to see specialists, etc. is not to focus on those things but to focus on system reforms that will make the system both more efficient and more patient focused.

Using BC as an example: 13-20% of patients in our hospitals can be, and should be cared for in other less costly settings and ways that are better for the patients. These are primarily chronic condition patients (COPD, arthritis, diabetes, etc.). If we use the lower number, 13%, then that is the equivalent of building and staffing 11 new average size hospitals in BC (which would be an enormous cost, both capital and operating). IF BC had (and could afford and staff) 11 more hospitals, then that would have a very large impact on wait times. Unfortunately the reality is BC can neither afford nor staff 11 more hospitals.

The pragmatic answer is then to improve chronic condition and elder care across the board, with an emphasis on team care, home care options (home care carries almost no capital cost and lower operating costs - the patient, who is overwhelming going to be happier in the home environment, is providing the care space).

By the way, the Legatum index does allow you to put your personal in and that will change the relative rankings.

^^^ Can't argue with that ranking. Specifically created to bring countries out of poverty. Not as subjective as the OP's post which was backed by a branding company. Look at how easy the topics are laid out with demerit points for each area.

Thank you for supplying the link :130:

We're Number 2, like we're literally $#!+?

I read something about two Canadians torturing a coyote to death up by Vanderhoof. It occurred to me that that's not exactly unusual behaviour for Canadians. I wondered how it would have affected survey respondents if they'd heard about this. Sadly people on the outside tend have an overly romanticized perception of Canada. In fact, we're basically Americans with fewer guns.

When I saw that JT and terrorist loving Merkel were considered "most respected" that was all I needed to see to know this "study" is biased leftist garbage.

It's fake news. Under Trudeau we're probably headed to the bottom. The nation yearns for the prosperous Harper years, especially the 2008 recession.

Sure, we know it wasn't Steve's fault. He did the heavy lifting that created the current prosperity.

Just another 1st world problem...
A report comes out and says good job your the 2nd best country to live and everyone gets upset? Not because they think we should be first, but because they think we are ranked too high.
