And you're not "leftist" until you need the social safety net implemented by the original "leftists". Hopefully you'll never need hospitals, doctors, nursing care, homesupport, and all kinds of other programs I hope you never need at the age of 26.

Healthcare is one thing I differ on as far as my political orientation goes, it sure as hell isn't perfect having public healthcare, but I have no issue with the system as it is personally. But I've grown up with it and have nothing to compare it to. What if some healthcare plans in the States offer a similar or better value for your money? All I've heard about are uninsured people being raked over the coals.

Either way, one does not have to disagree with every tenant of an ideology to oppose it.

It's more the fact that PC culture has come from the left, and I feel it is one of the greatest threats to our freedom in the west right now. It is completely incompatible with the tenant of free speech and puts us on a very slippery slope that leads to censorship, thought and speech policing, and having to constantly walk on eggshells, not being able to trust anyone because they might snitch you out for saying a few words.

I'm white, I've been called a cracker and been told that there's gonna be a racewar and that I as a whitey better watch the *bleep* out, but you know what? That's their right to say that *bleep* in my mind, I was offended but there was no physical violence, they were just words.

I'd rather be able to screw up and say something stupid with no legislated consequences (maybe social consequences or whatever) rather than embark down the path to a police state.

I'm sick of the fact that leftists think that people should be insulated from offensive language at all costs.

That the needs of minority groups should trump those of the majority.

I'm tired of the fact that each year we pay more and more tax to prop up all of these social programs, like giving refugees over $3600 a month living allowance (including child benefit), when the average person cannot afford to rent a place.

Tired of the bleeding heart "lets help everyone other than our own" mentality.

Tired of the push for equality of outcome rather than opportunity. Like the $15 an hour wage hike which will raise the bar to entry level jobs and raise the cost of living to a point where that extra bit of money has less buying power to the point that you're back at square one... Rather than lift people out of poverty.

Like a lot of the things the left come up with, on paper it sounds great. It FEELS great, but it never really works.

Isn't perfect? I'm waiting five months for a specialist but if I were oding right now I'd be saved. So no argument there right?

But pick and choose as you will, being a Canadian you have socialism in the fabric of Canadian life no matter what. I once told Atomoa that he'd get more conservative as he got older and oh boy, was that ever considered an insult.

But we do. I too am tired of lots of things I have no control over, my second's cousin's wife is having her fourth child in May. Uh ya, we're paying for it. No one can be TOLD to tie the tubes or get the big V, it's still "personal choice" right?

Are Trudeau's gaffes jokes or not? I don't even care, as long as Canada is still standing and not absorbed into the USA at the end of all this.
Could it be that a whole life can shift the day one starts telling the truth about what makes one happy?

This is true, but was it always that way? Was the country really founded on socialism? The first universal health coverage came about in 1947 in Saskatchewan.

Before then it was mostly charitable organizations that were subsidized by government that treated the poor, and they were few and far between, the wealthy paid for house calls.

Wasn't until the 60s that all the other provinces jumped on board.

What about non vital services such as utilities and insurance? (non vital as in no one is going to die immediately without them, electricity might be arguable.. but alas) Only a few provinces have public corporations for such things, BC being the most notable example because rather than being a public benefit it has become a bane.

So, it isn't socialism which is basically a stepping stone to communism, its socialized medicine or crown corporations that are a relatively recent part of the fabric of some parts of Canada. It's a relatively recent thing which is by no means permanent, with enough public support anything can be changed.

Public services are naturally a bad idea, they are a government run monopoly with no competition, where is the incentive to provide a good service at a good value to your client, where is the incentive to treat them better than your competitor?

I think we need less regulation and tax on business, shut down the crown corporations, but strengthen the competition bureau and develop a check and balance for it to make sure it is acting as it should, when it should.

Socialism is
"a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

So basically communism lite, and there are countless examples of how communism ends up working out for the people.

Collective governance and ownership cannot work, for there is no longer incentive to the individual.

Well, since our means of production, distribution, and exchange are rarely owned or regulated by the community as a whole (BC Hydro being an exception), I will leave the throwing of the term around to the less-educated. Ironically though, it is those socialist ideas of universal health care and subsidized education that allow our capitalist economy to thrive.

Probably 25 years ago I bought a wall hanger with Pierre Trudeau on it.
It had a big 4 -5 inch screw thru the ears.
Every so often you could use a screwdriver to turn the screw.
We called it Screwdough.
I think C-Fox radio use to get everyone who had one to turn the screw at noon everyday.

^^ You can see the look of embarrassment in the Indian officals' faces. Sophie is clapping like a trained seal. I used to travel overseas with a Canadian flag on my pack because I was proud and well-received by my hosts. I'm not so sure that it's a good idea anymore.
