Theocracy, like Iran's, is an enemy of democracy. Democratic governments can not and should not make funding available for those who yield to theocratic impulse and attempt to impose their beliefs on others. Freedom of religion also involves freedom from religion.

No organized religion has clean hands - and many were/are set up to be power structures and restrict the freedoms of others. A sound democratic government can not support that, but neither should it restrict beliefs.

The anti-theocratic test of support for Canada's charter rights is perhaps a little clumsy, but the "pounce" from dimples and right wing media is both disingenuous and anti- democratic. In the end it is a tempest in a teapot stirred up originally from antidemocratic sources, and should be dismissed as such.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.
