Peoples values are really f :cuss: ed up, when either politics or religion is thicker then blood &/or friendship.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Agreed. My dear old mother is an old Reform Party member, and like many hard-core conservatives easily falls for the “fake news” items designed to enrage the partisans with such misnomers as we’d expect to see on joe’s thread. She often forwards me email junkmail tripe as “Damn immigrants get more benefits than our own do – forward this if you agree” – to which I just smile and think “oh ma” before I delete it. At least she is still smart enough to know a liberal is not a socialist and a socialist is not a communist and wouldn’t embarrass herself by suggesting otherwise.

I don’t get why anyone needs to shut out people they supposedly care about over political disagreements. People in my family rarely discuss politics in any form. Even if someone did, and their views were disagreed with, they wouldn’t shun them (or even say anything). To us, keeping the tribe together is more important than petty squabbling. Whenever I have heard someone going off on some rare political tirade, I don’t even engage it. Not once have I disowned any of them over a disagreement.

As far as friends go, I almost never touch the topic of politics in any form. It’s part of the reason why I don’t do Facebook.

I do facebook and politics do not generally touch my timeline. But I have American friends who do discuss and with a wide range of people of all different views.

Fb is more interest based anyways. Nature and travel "likes" photography pages and special interests. But not politics.

Wow, pot calling kettle. Hard core left wing throwing own mother under the bus. You have just so proven the point. I have trouble reading an attack of your "mom" in the first part and then a "kudo" of her in the second part. And of course the kudo is ONLY because it is your way of thinking. Character unbecoming. The real problem is you probably do not see it but thank you for showing us all your true colours.
This is the actual point of the o/p that the left is so righteous as to denigrate their own family due to their mixed up agenda. The left is the problem in society today, big time.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

I don't see this as a left/right issue as much as it is the erosion of common respect and courtesy in our society in general. We each get a vote to cast as we each see fit. I am not answerable to you as to how I spend my vote any more than you are accountable to me. In my humble opinion we could do with a lot less criticism of each other based on political leanings and more time spent actually considering the issues we face and who has the best plan to deal with them. The colour of flag a candidate waves is less important to me than their level of integrity, their grasp of the issues, and what actually motivates them.

Oh Fluffy! Ever the voice of reason, it's in how it's said and the divisiness is hammered in through the name calling, the words we can't get back once the damage is done.

I often wonder how many Politicians would vote differently on issues if they didn't "have" to follow Party policies.

I would rather there were no Political parties and they all voted on what they believe instead.

To answer the posed question...simple....no.

My Family and Friends hold more integrity than to let personal
Political agenda's cloud who we are to each other.

That would just complicate matters even further. Some polition's beliefs would agree/overlap with others. Then it would close considerations and education by the public to choose the right person for the job.

Great idea in theory. In practice nothing would get done.

Wow! Faux outrage! So typical from the extreme right. Did it make you defensive to know there are actually differences between liberalism, socialism and communism (I know phlegm liked your post); quite significant differences, in fact? Our family is more like Ptolemy Soter, although we do discuss politics (some in Alberta, some out here). We don’t always agree, but we do recognize there are points to both sides of an argument and no one takes anything personal. Harmless kidding directed at me ma – who is getting on by the way? You think I should forward her “fake news” out of parental respect? Again, no one in my family, including my mother, would be worried too much about the fact I choose not to. Save the faux outrage for Trudeau.
