Federal Government - Committees/Committees

Post by Treblehook »

What buffoonery we must endure. The Trudeau government decides it will select the new Commissioner for the RCMP by striking a selection committee. [That's good.] It is composed of 10 individuals... 6 women, 3 men and a Chairman of course. It sits for 8 months while they are all on expenses and obviously being financially compensated for their service to the Government of Canada in this important work. [That's not so good] At the end of the day, given the composition of the Committee, we shouldn't be surprised by the result. Canadians should be very interested and should feels entitled to know what the cost was for this Selection Committee... likely quite astronomical indeed.

The second Committee of note would be the one that was put together to consider and put forth the recommended course for our of Federal Government in respect to drug and alcohol testing, for persons working in jobs where sobriety is critical for public safety reasons. Apparently, up until now drug testing has only been Federally mandated within the Canadian military. Anyway, I mention this committee on the workplace drug testing because the news today reports that the committee WAS UNABLE to come to a consensus regarding the need for such tests in workplaces where sobriety is sort of absolutely required. One has to wonder the cost of this committee and what kind of dunderhead members were incapable of arriving a committee decision on such a matter. Are you kidding me? How many people would like to send the spouse or parent or child off to work in [say] an open pit mining operation where there are no steps in place to make sure the people operating huge and dangerous machines are sober and free from the effects of alcohol and/or drugs?

It is no wonder we sometimes have trouble getting things done in this country!!!
