To Americans, dead kids are simply a cost of doing business. Inconsequential and not worth worrying about.

It seems obvious to us that there’s a problem, but their years of taking no action shows the rest of the world that they don’t agree. The message being sent to kids in the US is “We don’t care about you. We’re totally cool with you being gunned down in your classroom. The thing is, we actually know it’s going to happen again but you’re on your own... we’re not going to do anything about it. Suck it up.”

It's the old conservative mantra of "if something's broke, don't fix it".

Usually one thing in common with these attacks.
AR weapons.
What does anyone need one of these for???
People fighting for the right to have any type of these weapons are just plain idiots, sorry.
Maybe it should be legal to have hand grenades, flame throwers, small missiles.

Yes, this is summing up the NRA, their contributions (bribes) to their State and Federal politicians, the politicians who don't want to lose all that M O N E Y, the sellers of said guns, the public who can't differentiate between being unarmed and gun control, and hysteria that goes with it.

My post was not targeted at the NRA. It’s targeted at every single American.... every... single... one. This is not on the NRA. This is on all of them. They’re all to blame.

They’ve embraced a culture of guns that spans all political lines. This is not a left vs right issue. I guarantee a huge number of gun murders are committed by people who definitely didn’t vote for Trump and don’t identify as Republicans. Blaming the NRA is a huge copout. On the whole, Americans love what the NRA stands for... or at least they don’t care enough to do anything about it.

Think back to all of the mass shootings and school killings... how long does it take for everyone to move on? It’s a couple of weeks at most. They only raise their voices for a few weeks after every shooting then drop it. If they really cared, then we’d see constant protests until something changed. We should have seen protests countless times between the Vegas massacre and this shooting. Instead we see protests and rallies only after a shooting and only for a week or two. They pretend like they care, but in reality they don’t actually care enough to effect change.

I hope this time is different, but history has shown it won’t be.

I wonder how many here remember the episode of All in the Family, when Archie Bunker somehow ended up on TV, with his (ultra conservative) opinions about gun control? Here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lDb0Dn8OXE -- about 1.5 minutes long. America thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard -- Archie's solution to the then current problem of hi-jacking aircraft, was to 'arm all your passengers'.

Well here we are 40 years later, and the ludicrous has become reality. Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh's solution to all the US school shootings, is to 'arm all your students'. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/18/limbaugh-guns-schools-concealed-carry-416864

It is almost impossible to believe that our American neighbours have 'devolved' to this level of ignorance....

That guy is a total moron. The idea of people being good or evil is so childish as to be laughable. People may be sick, may be psychopathic, may be messed up, but to reduce people to good and evil is insulting to everyone else's intelligence. By the way, an armed guard was present at Columbine, that didn't stop the massacre.
The other dumb as a bag of rocks thing that I hear is people suggesting arming teachers, because god knows that teachers never lose it and hit kids or such:

Yes, I want someone with a gun in that position /s

What we can see is that on the whole people cannot be trusted with guns. Some do stupid stuff with them. Pretending that we can solve a problem by arming more people, who will have far less training than even a cop, is just nuts. Also, who is going to pay for these metal detectors, security guards, additional training if teachers are being armed, etc.? The NRA? The gun owners? Whose taxes are going to increase to justify the extra spend so that some people can have easy and fast access to new toys for their hobby? Thankfully we don't have such a dumb situation here.

I doubt teachers will be allowed to carry weapons - that is just begging for an accident or deliberate shooting to happen. They are required to teach children, not learn to identify potential deadly situations, when to use deadly force and respond accordingly. Would teachers even be on board with the many hours of instructions, practical training and refresher courses?

Good grief!

Third-graders are selling AR-15 raffle tickets in Missouri

And Trump wants to focus on mental health!

Well, he might need to take a ‘shotgun’ approach on that factor.

You'd be wrong as teachers in some schools have been packing for years.

Jewish schools have armed guards, be they in California, France, or Israel. That's the price you pay for being Jewish. Ben Shapiro went to such a school.

Seems cattle car loads of people have to die before some LaLaLand dwellers are forced to abandon their ideological daydreams.
