i figure this Napoleon Bonaparte quote suits this situation well.
When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain."

Even at early stages back when it was just few university computers connected guess who was sponsoring them? What little support it received from the govt is laughable - you might as well claim that because the air they researchers were breathing was American then every single invention was invented by US govt.
That's my thinking too. I believe hobbyguy is assigning a little too much credit to the US government.

Sadly (I suppose), the single biggest force to build and expand the internet was pornography. There is no doubt the military (like banking) has caught up but ironically pornography was the driving force to develop the means to deliver top notch video and exchange money over the net.
Prior to this war had always been the impetus for technological advancement
No worries. Because even thought the internet is what it is today, the military has taken over.
Sleep well.

ARPANET is considered the forerunner of the internet and developed TCP/IP. It was funded by the US military.

grammafreddy wrote:My financial advisor told me just last week that if I have a personal income of about $60,000 my tax bracket is 42% - federal and provincial combined.
Now, that's not to say that's what my income is, just what the tax would be IF I had that much income.
That's most likely before purchases, it used to be about 57% Taxation when I was working full time, when you also considered taxes paid for cost of living.
You had to work well into July before pocketing any money for yourself. Oh, Canada!!!
