What you want to hear a politician actually say
Don't you wish all politicians talked like this? (I hope we can keep this thread non-partisan, so keep the anti-Harper/Obama/Bush dreck out of this...thanks)
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

Very interesting GB. To me the best part of his rant was when he said the first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one...
I would like to hear our policians admit there are problems. And instead of (like we even tend to do on these forums) deflect from it by blaming someone else. Take some responsability for what they do instead of deny and deflect. And as Steven often eludes to part of the blame lies with the voter who allows it to happen and even rewards these people by voting them in again and aiding in their denial and deflection. I would like to se honesty, responsability and a ton of hard work. All of which I believe is lacking today. I would also like to see the end to the strick following of the party line. I would like to see politicians who say and do what they believe and what is best for their constituants and BC as a whole, not the party and getting re-elected.
Finally and I know I have done it to, I believe we all have to stop making excuses for governmants, big business, whatever, admit we have problems, lots of them. We have to start to look for solutions and ways that we as seemingly unimportant as we are can make changes no matter how little.

Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

Informed as he mentioned is another interesting one. How do you stay informed when governments, political parties in general, tell you nothing. They tell you what they think you want to hear especially near election time. Actual lies just to get elected so they can carry on with their agenda no matter what it may be. Also I believe that for many reasons people aren't interested or are just too busy to stay informed. I do not know the solution.
I wish there was a way we could band together and see to it that any politician who lies does not get re-elected. See to it that if they even get a pension it is nothing worthwhile. I know it would be impossible because everyone has a different opinion of who is doing their job. Maybe for a while we should just elect politicians for one term but again I realize that would not work as it would turn off any good ones. Any good ideas on how to get our wishes across.

Do you think that a basically complacent voter has made politicians what they are today. They know that they can feed us anything and in the end we will usually accept it. They just get braver and braver till something like the HST happens and then there is total rebellion. Something like the banking system. They just keep going and going until disaster and then OH well it's not our fault. Starts when we are kids, not me and never stops. It is stupid on everyones part but it seems to be the way these days. Even though we constantly complain we are too happy to do much about it. Actually a lot of times when people try to do something like protests they are looked down upon. Again I do not know the solution. I can see problems but not solutions.

Actually, I wish the voting population understood the point he was trying to get across. We can point fingers everywhere but ultimately we're the ones responsible.
Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation, and war, and cruelty. People are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem.

i agree Smurf.
Recognizing is one thing, admitting and taking action are two other things.

Truth is, if we heard a politician talk like that he'd the crucified for dropping F-bombs at a public forum...
Seriously though, this guy's message sounds like what Ron Paul and Peter Schiff. Actually, I think a lot of politicians say things like this, but they generally come across as angry white guys.

Only 60% of Rob Ford's actions can be explained by crack cocaine.

yeah he does sound a lot like Ron Paul. I am not sure if those stats Jeff Daniels is saying are accurate, but I know that Ron Paul's biggest planks was reducing, dramatically, spending on defense. Being the highest defense spender in the world when the 25 next highest spenders are allies, just makes no sense.
