And once again, by the use of an armed militia, not by individuals owning their own arsenal of semi automatic assault rifles.

Does anybody else find it oddly ironic that a piece of legislation that was drafted by the same individuals that deemed that slavery was also acceptable is being used as an excuse to justify the ownership of a firearm in 2013?

Bloody Hypocrites
Getting rich off violence then telling law abiding citizens "enough" I wonder how many of their movies Adam Lanza watched before he went on a killing spree, some of that innocent blood is on their hands as much as the guns that were used.

This article has not one mention on whether there was any guns involved in any of these robberies. For all you know, there was not one injury from a gun during these robberies, thanks to the gun ban (although I doubt it). Gun control won't stop crime, but it will control gun deaths and injury by guns.

Funnily enough, even the caption under the photograph used does not indicate the use of a fire arm.

A man dressed in a yellow poncho, black cap, surgical mask, and black surgical gloves tried to rob a Citibank on Michigan Avenue, by claiming he had a bomb, but he fled the bank without taking the money he demanded, and left the fake bomb behind

When Canada brought in the gun registry it turned a lot of law-abiding citizens into instant criminals because they refused to register their guns. In the US, if they impose restrictions against semi-automatic guns, the same thing will happen. People who have them and want to keep what they have will not give them up and people who want to get them will tap into the underground black market.

And really, nothing will change. The black hat cowboys will still be targeting masses of people in various places. If they put armed guards in the schools, the shooters will find different targets or will find a venue for a specific target where there's no armed guards. A school bus perhaps, a school field trip where the kids are walking in a group, a sports field ... pick just about anywhere. The shooter will.

If they put armed guards in the schools, the nutters will simply rework their strategy. Take out the guard first comes to mind. I doubt very much that a single guard could do much against someone wearing body armour and equipped with 100 round magazines.

It becomes a civilian arms race. These nutters are often not stupid, and they plan carefully.

As to black markets and semi-automatics: just because something is imperfect, and will take continued effort to achieve, doesn't mean it isn't worth it. If you change the culture a bit, so that when A goes to the range, the "envy" gun is the accurate and finely made bolt action (or whatever) and not the rat-tat-tat semi-auto, then over time it matters little that some folks will continue to hang onto semi-autos. In fact, it would be foolish to try to ban people from owning the existing inventory of semi-autos. You "grandfather" weapons made before the implementation of the law, and offer buy-backs for for the older ones. That way, you aren't "taking away" anybody's guns.

They became criminals because they refused to follow a law - its not the governments fault they broke the law. Is it that hard to get some paperwork (it should be)? It's a gun not a toy. Every police officer in Canada killed by firearms has been killed by a longun/hunting rifle.

Criminals is a unfair stretch - they would be fined and lose privileges for not registering. Way to stick to the C talking points though. "Duck hunter criminals".

The NRA is a direct lobby for gun manufactures. The NRA is a group of gun manufactures - selling their product under the guise/shadow of the 2nd amendment. It is not a "civil rights group" - it is a business lobby group.

The more "guns in peoples hands" the richer they and their friends who pay their salaries get. This school program proposal is a huge potential contract for their friends.

This is like Enbridge being in charge of pipeline regulations.

Why is this not being discussed?

I think you missed my point. Or maybe you deliberately chose to ignore it? Maybe next time read the whole post instead of just one sentence. It helps keep things in context.

I was just making sure to frame people who broke the law correctly. I understand you feel the gun registry didn't make things safer. The police and I disagree with you, but I wasn't addressing that point.
