28 killed at elementary school

Post by westbankkid »

The Americans in the US are a bunch of gun happy idiots and it has to stop. I just noticed that there was a shooting today at an elementary school that had 28 shot and killed including 8 children. There are an average of 83 deaths and 187 injuries by guns a day in the US.
Will the Americans ever smarten up and change their gun laws? The National Rifle Association are the main cause of the lack of change in the laws.

I don't know if you've noticed, but it doesn't matter what laws you pass, people will be able to get guns to shoot people if they really want to. Same goes for marijuana.

You have a sick society with easy access to firearms.

I am actually starting to believe that the increasing amounts of these incidents is indirect correlation with this Mayan calendar end of the world nonsense.

Where these idiots are trying to get their minute of fame and historical recognition.

There may even be some belief that they are actually doing some sort of religious cleansing of society before the great rapture

There's no way to even remotely understand anyone who could do such an evil thing.

But why make it easy? Compare the deaths by firearms in Canada or the UK to the US and you will see a vast difference. Canada averages 45 homicides per year, UK averages 25, compared to 33,000 per year for the US. Compare the laws and compare the murders.

Whereas the US has a higher homicide rate than Canada it is still lower than much of the rest of the world.

This school shooting today just highlights the need for open carry laws in the US, had there been licenced trained teachers armed in these classes it would have never happned.
Taking guns away from law abiding people does 2 things
#1 it takes away your god given right to self defence.
#2 It leaves only the insane criminals with guns to do as they will without fear of being killed.

Tampa brought in open carry laws, home invasions and gun crime went down 34%
Texas brought in open carry and gun crime went down 40%
Australia brought in the toughest gun laws in the world and home invasions went up 35%
Criminals don't rob or kill people that are armed.

Oh I wouldnt go that far. teachers all to ofetn are being charged with kiddy porn, sexuall assualt, some have even been charge with shooting people ect ect...

Its not that they need to carry guns , but rather these loosers need to grow up, and if you feel the need or know your taking yourself out. grow some balls and do it to yourself-by yourself.

I stay well armed for this very reason.

I don't want to live in a society where elementary school teachers are wearing body armor and carrying firearms.

Or where we have a new class of security guard Fully armed With body armor standing at each entrance Of every school In America and Canada.

This person obviously had a mental health issue And the means to carry out his fantasy.

Are you also aware of the new rules of engagment in many US states?
Police show up secure the school, then they have to wait outside for the Fed's to show up,
I heard that it took the Fed's 2 hours to show up, now this could be just hear say but still how many of these innocent babies could have been saved.

Correlation does not imply causation though. We have had these discussions many times on Castanet, and so far no one has offered any proof that strict gun laws lower homicide rates.

BTW, what makes you think you couldn't own these guns in Canada. It is actually quite easy to own a handgun here (though if you go do some target practice in the woods, you're libel to be face penalties as harsh as you would for raping someone).

Sorry, but welcome to the real world.
Body armor may be missing the point. Crooks go for the easy target, it may be enough to instill fear in crooks that a teacher or two are armed, that can and will shoot back.

Correct. Thank you for posting a factual, empirical set of statistics instead of the emotional-based drivel we hear from the anti-gun posters. Allowed carry laws result in fewer homicides, and the sooner we can adopt such measures, the safer North Americans will be from deranged lunatics.

Condolences to those affected by this terrible act.

What about this dad who is a law abiding citizen? I can understand your point, but at the same time I do not want people like this to have legal access to firearms.

Open carry is not the answer to this type of shooting. It's the cultural mentality that leads to this happening. I'm not saying it couldn't happen here, or in the UK, or Australia, but there's a reason that it doesn't happen as frequently. One is stricter laws governing access to firearms and the second is the culture of the country.

Open carry may deter robberies and home invasion, but does nothing to deter this type of shooting.
