In a round about way you did.

When you say "anyone with common sense would see the situation the way I do," you are in fact stating that people who don't see the situation the way you do do not have common sense. It's an old forum trick to put people down without directly putting them down.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

1. I have seen no proof the police set the fire.
2. Once the fire started, what would you have had the police do, knowing there was an armed lunatic in the cabin? Do tell.

lol you're putting words into my mouth Nebula and I wasn't aware it was an old forum trick... I only have a couple hundred posts!!

1. No proof they didn't
2. He was wounded and not returning fire (from audio displayed above)

Police are arguably there to save lives, they should have saved him regardless....

Anyway, you're position is one that seems logical to me. You are a person who goes by evidence, fair enough. It's scary because it seems you think that the way this all went down was perfectly fine.

I'll ask again, nicely.

Once the fire started, what would you have had the police do, knowing there was an armed lunatic in the cabin?

Lobbing something into the cabin to root him out isn't deliberately setting a fire.

My word for a person who writes a rambling manifesto and goes around killing people on a shooting spree. Feel free to substitute any adjective you wish.

Fugitive gunman Chris Dorner told hostage couple: I just want to clear my name!

The gunman repeatedly insisted, however, that he would not kill them. He revealed he had watched Mr Reynolds shovelling snow around the property in the preceding days, and told the couple he believed they were “hard-working, good people,” saying: “I don’t have a problem with you. I just want to clear my name.”

So that makes him a saint? He killed 2 people because of who her father was. He killed two people because they were in the same profession as he used to be in. They were not LAPD. He did not kill them because they personally wronged him. They didn't even know him, had never met him and probably didn't even know his name when he murdered them (Except the last murder). How are those murders in any way justified?
