Nigeria's Islamic extremist leader threatened in a videotaped statement seen on Monday to sell the more than 300 teenage schoolgirls abducted from a school in the remote northeast of the country three weeks ago.

... He described the girls as "slaves" and said "By Allah, I will sell them in the marketplace." The hour-long video starts with fighters lofting automatic rifles and shooting in the air as they chant "Allahu akbar!" or "God is great."

In the video, Shekau also says the students "will remain slaves with us." That appears a reference to the ancient jihadi custom of enslaving women captured in a holy war, who then can be used as sex slaves. "They are slaves and I will sell them because I have the market to sell them," he said

... Nigeria's police have said more than 300 girls were abducted. Of that number, 276 remain in captivity and 53 escaped.

For a person living in North America this is so hard to believe. The governments of the world need to help or to pressure Nigeria to act swiftly against the people who have abducted these girls. We also need to open our eyes that there is Human Trafficking right here in Canada and that there is a market for these girls and women. How horrible is that?

It is terrible, just like the South Sudan crisis. but since it doesn't affect our oil our governments do nothing.

On CBC they interviewed the MP responsible for the department that would be able to do something. He said what they are doing is now going to classify the group (Boko Haram), as terrorists and they are sending some money to help the Nigerian government hopefully find these girls. When he was pressed about whether Canada would do something if Nigeria asked for help finding the girls he seemed to side step the answer.

I wish there was as much of a public out cry about this as the Temporary Foreign Worker program. Right now, with an election coming next year, the Cons are listening more than ever to what concerns Canadians. Send a message to the MPs that this is a world issue that needs Canada's attention. The White House said Tuesday the U.S. is preparing to send a team to Nigeria to help the government search for nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted more than three weeks ago by Islamic militants.

The team would likely include military personnel, law enforcement personnel and others with experience in intelligence, investigations, hostage negotiation and victims' assistance, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.

"Time is of the essence," he said, stressing that the kidnappings happened 22 days ago. "Appropriate action must be taken to locate and to free these young women before they are trafficked or killed."

I am surprised that the media is using the word "Islamic" when describing these bozos. Usually they are just called "militants", and left at that. This is just a horrible story, but Islamic peoples have been taking Africans as slaves for hundreds of years. The port of Zanzibar was a Portuguese and Islamic slave trading port for centuries. A lot of people don't know this.

On first thought this story sounds horrific for those girls. Sold to what? If indeed it is sex slavery, that is awful. Any man who takes part in that needs to look for the beauty in women.

What is surprising though, is the Nigerian president's comment on the situation. He says he believes the kidnapping of the girls will be the beginning of the end of terror in Nigeria. What is that supposed to mean????

He is trying to suggest the militants have gone too far, and that given the understandable and growing outrage caused by this act it will lead to their ultimate undoing. That, however, remains to be seen. I believe he is being naïve.

Canada is sending money to Nigeria so it will directly go into some politicians bank account. We'd be incredibly naive to believe otherwise.

No one can 'make" the Nigerian government act except for the millions of people who live there and want a higher standard.

The accusations from Amnesty International are disturbing to say the least, that the Nigerian Military had a four hour advance notice and all that happened is that certain girls were pulled out of the school.

On first thought this story sounds horrific for those girls. Sold to what? If indeed it is sex slavery, the majority of people have no idea how terrifying and terrible it is. And all the ensuing international political posturing is no surprise. And the human suffering, what these girls will likely and so sadly endure, gets lost in the shuffle. Any man who takes part in that needs to have his head examined.

'Islamic Militants' such as these don't want women to receive an education, because educated women have independent, inquiring minds and aren't as easily beaten into submission.
