US cops break his neck, man dies

Another sad story involving cops and black peiple in the US:

Six Baltimore police officers have been suspended over the death of a man whose neck was broken after he was arrested and locked in a police van, as it emerged officers had delayed providing him with medical attention despite his requests.

Freddie Gray died from a “significant spinal injury”, police confirmed on Monday, while claiming it remained unknown how he was hurt. Chiefs said Gray appeared to have been injured while locked alone in a compartment of their transportation wagon.

The officers include Lieutenant Brian Rice, a member of the Baltimore Police Department since 1997. Police said Rice, 41, was the officer who first made eye contact with Gray and another man. After making eye contact, police said, Gray ran from police before he was tackled and detained.



Police continue to investigate what caused his injuries while witnesses at West Baltimore's Gilmor Homes, where he was arrested, say they saw him beaten.

Gray died Sunday as a result of a spinal cord injury.

Other officers involved in Gray's arrest include:


Sgt. Alicia White, 30, a member of the department since 2010; Officer Caesar Goodson, 45, who has been on the police force since 1999; Officer William Porter, 25, Officer Garrett Miller, 26; and Officer Edward Nero, 29, all joined BPD in 2012, police said.


Police did not specify each of the officers' roles in Gray's arrest and transport.

Just because good officers die doing the work to keep people more safe doesn't give any of them the right to shoot suspects in the back, gang kick the crap out of suspects, etc.


Maybe people need to counter post stories where officers saved peoples *bleep*, those stories would BY FAR exceed the negative stories.

It looked like he got into the van on his own. He was standing on the raised deck and ducked his head to get in.

If he had been tazed as was suggested, that would explain his difficulty in walking but he did eventually seem able to stand although he was wobbly which is consistent with the shock after effects.

His neck certainly did not appear to be broken up to that point.

I didn't hear anything about him ramming his head into the inside of the van or whatever truth was saying. If that did happen, there is your answer.

As for the cops not taking notice when he asked for his inhaler and then medical assistance, that is unacceptable and should cost who ever was in charge their job.

He was screaming in pain when the cops lifted him. Watch his legs, he can't use them. There was definitely an injury that occurred. Maybe whatever happened in the van after made it worse, who knows. I'm sure the six cops all came up with some story though.

Why is this thread titled black man dies? Are we supposed to care more because he was black? Or maybe because the cops happen to be white? Love that the race card is automatically played in these cases. If I was a white cop I wouldn't even attend calls dealing with black people simply for the fact that if anything happens your a racist and the world will judge you. He ran from the police and I'm guessing put up a fight when they caught him, maybe don't do that and avoid the whole situation.

I'll reserve judgement until further information comes out, but it's a shame and if injury occurred during transport, something like that should be able to be avoided altogether.
