no one is asking you to . these car makers are well aware of what it will take for mass switch over . but it is coming . the good thing is a gas car will rise in value as collector items .

Not many gas cars rise in value. There's been a select few....and will remain that way.

For current vehicles on the road to become collector editions that could take one hell of long time. lol

This, as may be apprised by the reader, is mortifying to the regular citizen, such as the lady at the town hall. But now to the crown of our tale. Just two days ago, in this same Ontario where “energy poverty” is the phrase d’jour, it was announced that for those green citizens who wish to buy a Tesla all-electric car, or any other high-end save-the-planet roadster, vehicles in the $75,000 to $150,000 bracket, the province is restoring the full $14,000 ecoVirtue subsidy. And as an extra frill, all Tesla tycoons get to ride free in the HOV lanes and wave at the second-hand pickups stalled in the lanes for ordinary folks.

This is a story of almost Dickensian symmetry. The ecoLords who have brought mayhem to Ontario’s electricity system and reduced some of its citizens to public tears and weeping, with power being cut off to low-income residents, is hurling $14,000 subsides to those who by definition – those buying $150,000 wonder cars – have no possible need of them.

If the lady who wept to the Prime Minister hears of this, she will no doubt weep again. She can’t pay her light bill, while Tesla Tommy gets a $14,000 cheque.

Guess that's just another terrific example of how the province's much vaunted carbon tax is revenue neutral, eh?

Our governments take a bundle of cash from everyone by instituting a tax that drives up the cost of every basic necessity, and then give a substantial kickback to the people who can afford the car.

Yeah, well, again:

People who can afford to buy an electric or hybrid car get a nice slice of our cash. (Cash the government collected by taxing our heat and food and transportation. You know, our basic necessities.)

People who rely on their used beaters, or public transit, or pedal power, etc., these folk get to keep subsidizing the people who can afford to buy the nice new electrics and hybrids.

Great system. Terrific system. For those who can afford it.

Gee, what's the likelihood the NDP would show more sense?

Seriously, the subsidies for this sort of thing are sooooo messed up.

I'm looking forward to improving technology, cleaner energy, etc., but shouldn't our first priority be to address the underlying problems of urban sprawl and poor transit planning, rather than merely encouraging people to drive something different to work?

Colbalt, Ontario experiencing abit of economic activity thanks to unrest in Africa.

Who knew?

Some call it a fake business, and their earnings are disappointing right now, but as the electric car quest continues, industries come to life.

Cobalt has almost tripled in price in the last 5 years. It is a cathode ingredient in the batteries... so no cobalt, no Tesla. Most cobalt comes from little Africans as young as 4 working and dying in mines so we can drive our faux virtue machines.

As much as I like American companies, Tesla buyers are soon to lose their $7500 tax credit as Tesla approaches 200,000 units. Also, Tesla is unable to deliver their model 3. Because of this, stock dropped to near $300 from $360.

My 5 year old truck is worth more now than what I paid for it.

Wish Tesla would make a 4x4 truck.

Musk is simply trying to achieve too much in too short a time. He really needs to learn to set priorities.
