I've been following this on BBC, there hasn't been any mention about any explosions in Paris. Perhaps the smoke in the above photo is from fireworks?

that could very well be, along with a heck of a lightning storm!

You might be right.

There were some reports of explosions around the Eiffel Tower after smoke was visible near the icon, but the incident is believed to be fireworks-related.

If this was a terrorist attack it seems strange that there wasn't any explosives involved. Maybe it was just a crazy truck driver that went postal.

Police are also searching for an accomplice.
At this stage, police are describing the incident as 'a major criminal attack'.
