How Russia sanctions work: why it's a good thing

Post by Thinktank »

Trump signs new sanctions bill against Russia. It's a good thing.

Here's how it works:
Image
Polish farmers can't sell their apples to Russia, who responded to sanctions
by putting their own sanctions on Polish food, so the poor Polish farmers go bankrupt. That's the purpose of sanctions.

Image
in Russia, food prices go up - the poor are hurt the most. That's the purpose of sanctions.

Image
But Russia still sells $billions worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia - USA's best best best friend. So is
USA and Russia mad at each other? Or are they just mad at the poor people?

Arms sales to the Arabs help the rich in Russia. No sanctions there. There are no sanctions for the rich - only the poor. The Arabs will be financing terrorism in Syria - but Russia doesn't mind. The only thing Russia cares about is Polish apple farmers.

Image
And America also sells $billions of weapons to Saudi Arabia, the same country Russia is selling weapons
to. Weapons sales help the rich in America -so no sanctions there. Russia and USA, best friends of the Arabs.
(while a million Syrians get slaughtered, and USA and Russia both play games for us, pretending to be fighting terrorism)

Russian sanctions hit Turkish farmers hard - and also hurt Russia's poorest people.
No food for you - poor people. Are you a farmer? You get sanctions. Are you an arms dealer? No sanctions
for you.

Now do you know how sanctions work? Now do you know what kind of tricks our governments are playing
on the poor people? How do you feel about the new Russia sanctions bill signed by Trump?

comment.

Yes, politicians playing games:

(CNN)House to vote on Russia sanctions bill rebuking Trump. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is expected to overwhelmingly approve a bipartisan bill giving Congress the authority to block any effort by President Donald Trump to ease sanctions against Russia.

(NPR)The House overwhelmingly passed a sanctions bill on Tuesday that would punish Russia for interfering in the 2016 election and tie President Trump's hands in terms of lifting economic restrictions on Moscow.

(NYT)With New Sanctions, Senate Forces Trump’s Hand on Russia. The Senate on Thursday approved sweeping sanctions against Russia, forcing President Trump to decide whether to accept a tougher line against Moscow or issue a politically explosive veto amid investigations into ties between his presidential campaign and Russian officials.

The Trump administration has opposed the sanctions against Russia, arguing that it needs flexibility to pursue a more collaborative diplomacy with a country that, by American intelligence consensus, interfered in last year’s presidential election.

White House aides have acknowledged privately that a veto would be politically awkward, at best, for Mr. Trump to justify during the continuing investigations into whether his campaign colluded with Russia.

Sure, the sanctions against Russia are dumb, but the anti-Trumpers (not the sharpest tools in shed at the best of times) wanted to make a statement. Big Whoop.

Sanctions never affect billionaires. That's why Russian billionaires keep getting richer.

Billionaire Arabs will still finance terrorism and wars
Billionaire Russians will still get richer making Russia the most "inequality" country on earth
Billionaire Americans will still bomb the middle east and sell WMDs for $billlions.

But Polish apple grower farmers will go bankrupt.

I don't fully understand everything in your post but I did appreciate the read. It's scary stuff when comparing to what happened to start ww2. Ww2 had a bit more going on with Italy and Germany so it's not quite history repeating itself.

 That was 2017. Now we're more broke and closer to WW3 than any time in our lives.

The Cadillac Escalade is selling in Russia for $180,000 - and we were told Ukrainians are dropping dead by the hundred thousand for our democracy. that, people, is how sanctions work.
