Teen survivors of last week’s deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school swarmed the state Capitol in Tallahassee on Wednesday, demanding lawmakers take action against gun violence.

About 100 students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where authorities say 17 people were killed by a 19-year-old gunman using an assault-style rifle, rode buses to the Capitol on Tuesday.

church in Pennsylvania has thrown itself into the nationwide debate on gun laws by announcing they will be hosting a blessing ceremony for couples with an AR-15 assault rifle. It’s so inspiring to see students from across the country march on their legislative buildings, campaigning against the policies that continue to allow their peers to be gunned down en mass.

What’s sickening though is republicans who are trying to turn this into a conspiracy theory. Claiming these are paid actors. Dismissing them. Trump himself who responded to the problem of guns in schools by proposing that there be more guns in school, with loaded teachers. How disgusting to say to someone who witnessed their friends murdered in front of them by guns, who has been traumatized to fear people who may be packing and telling them “what we need are even more guns”.

Our son and daughter-in-law, and grandson, live one county over from where one of these recent school messes took place. Both parents work in schools, and now, in addition to trying to educate the kids in that effed-up society, they may be expected to grab a weapon and put themselves in harm's way defending themselves and others against potentially heavily armed intruders?

We were thrown into panic when the first reports of that incident just named the State.

The least of my angry retorts in my mind right now . . . think Moncton you *bleep* US lawmakers! :swear:

Now they are throwing around the idea of arming teachers...
Is this really the best solution for the problems they are having south of us?

Teachers do not want to carry guns. It is their job to educate. They don’t want to have guns near students. And how are they supposed to afford guns and wages for the guns when they can’t even afford school supplies.

NO it isn't but it's an idea. What they now need is 500 more ideas and then actually sit down and work out all of them until you have 1 that you can implement for change and improvement.

However when every single idea is jumped on and attacked mercilessly by one side of the other they end up with zero ideas, zero solutions, and zero change,.....until the next one and they do it all over again.

Even trained gunmen aren’t able to stop a kid with a gun. I guess the next step is just to arm all the students. If all students have a gun, surely none will use them.
