My question would be why would you think liberals feel any different? Too many of joe's memes? :135:

Liberalism and conservatism are exactly alike in that they both believe in the free enterprise market system and they both believe in the democratic process. The main difference between conservatism and liberalism is that conservatives believe issues like addiction, unemployment and poverty are solely the fault and responsibility of those afflicted, while liberals recognize that competitive market economies by their inherent nature produce winners and losers, haves and have-nots, and require intervention (welfare, back to work programs, job training, public education, etc.) so more can participate and keep the entire economy healthy. We can see the analogy in professional competitive sports leagues where the attempt is made to encourage equality by having teams that finish last in a season pick first in the draft. They recognize their leagues are healthier and more successful with parity (but don't tell the New England Patriots - *bleep*).

I never said liberals think differently. Based on your definitions above I would fall right in the middle of the two. I think everyone deserves a fair chance, but not a handout.

If I focus on addiction, to me a fair chance is being able to receive help for addiction such as a rehabilitation program, group meet, access to prescriptions that help curb the addiction - provided for free. I don't agree with unlimited naloxone revivals, wet facilities, long term free housing, etc. A limit on the amount of times you could go through the recovery process as well. If a person keeps becoming addicted and running through the process it's obvious they don't care and will never smarten up.

I'll get some hate here two, but i know too many single moms who don't work and collect huge government checks + child support. Enough money to rent out brand new renovated basement suites, drive nice cars, hire babysitters and have a great social life. I don't know the exact amount they are receiving as looking up the info has proven difficult and the people I know won't respond to questions lol. Anyway I don't think anyone should be left on the street but at what point do we draw the line? Many young couples put off having kids because they cannot afford it but these couples tax dollars are going to all the singles who screwed up, had kids with multiple men, don't work, take drugs, live at home and party. Doesn't seem right to me.

Anyway Ka-El, that's just some of my feelings on the topic of socialism. I'd like to see us somewhere between conservative and liberal as I think it works out the most fair for those who take the risks and work hard. I feel that we are approaching a more socialist society and that the harder I work the more I just give away, but I'm young and have a lot to learn and grow.

:135: Huh? What part of your post was referencing socialism?

p.s. no one on any benefits program with government gets a huge monthly check that
funds the lifestyles you are describing. She has extra income sources from somewhere.

If you're talking about perpetual assistance (Disability) then the rates are easily googled:

Damn those evil socialist single moms driving their fancy cars on $1k - 1.5k a month.

Guess I've got it wrong then! The ones I personally know appear quite well off, more so then me when I entered the work force.
