At Colorado State University (CSU), administrators have designated the common greeting “long time, no see” as non-inclusive language.

That’s according to a student, Katrina Leibee, who writes for the campus paper, The Rocky Mountain Collegian. Leibee met with Zahra Al-Saloom, director of diversity and inclusion at CSU, who showed her a list of terms and phrases considered contrary to the university’s mission of fostering inclusion.

“One of these phrases was ‘long time, no see,’ which is viewed as derogatory towards those of Asian descent,” wrote Leibee.

Seriously, this is another lie. Can you not get your facts even remotely correct?
Zahra Al-Saloom is not "director of diversity and inclusion at CSU", but rather "the director of Diversity and Inclusion at Associated Students of Colorado State University". These are two completely different positions. One is a student union position, the other a position at CSU. Different things completely, but someone has clearly altered the text from Leibee's original article to make things appear different to how they actually are. Why would someone make up such a lie? Why would they try to mislead people? If you can't answer why someone would want to lie to you, to deceive you, you have a long way to go. If you believed the original article, unquestioningly, you got played.

Original article here for those easily mislead:
https://collegian.com/2018/11/leibee-csu-has-gone-too-far-with-inclusive-language/

ETA: I see where you were lied to, it was in "Reason.com" (what a misleading name for that blog). Interestingly, it doesn't seem as if many if even any of their readers caught the lie either. Wow, some people are so easily manipulated!

Nobody got played as you called the language is still changing no matter how you paint it or try to hide the meaning... :130:

Editor’s Note: All opinion section content reflects the views of the individual author only and does not represent a stance taken by The Collegian or its editorial board.

If you’re a freshman this year amidst the hustle and bustle of starting college, moving in and figuring out your new routine and lifestyle, orientation leaders at Colorado State University introduced you to an important aspect of CSU’s culture: inclusive language.

Inclusive language includes every identity, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. During orientation, we were introduced to gender pronouns such as “they/them/theirs.” This is something to be excited about, and most of us actively respect people’s gender pronouns, but as the semester continues, it has become obvious that inclusive language extends way beyond gender pronouns.

It is great for students to try to use inclusive language, but it has become an expectation of students. This expectation might not be entirely fair. We have been asked to get rid of the language we have been using for as long as we have known the English language.

We were told that the popular term “you guys” was not inclusive of all genders, and we should instead replace it with “y’all.” We were told to use the term “first-year” instead of “freshman,” because “freshman” is not inclusive of all genders.

After getting involved in residential leadership, I was told not to use the word “dorms,” and replace it with “residence halls.” Apparently, dorm refers to only a place where one sleeps, and residence hall refers to a place where we sleep, eat, study and participate in social activities.

A countless amount of words and phrases have been marked with a big, red X and defined as non-inclusive. It has gotten to the point where students should carry around a dictionary of words they cannot say.

In a meeting with Zahra Al-Saloom, the director of Diversity and Inclusion at Associated Students of Colorado State University, she showed me an entire packet of words and phrases that were deemed non-inclusive. One of these phrases was “long time, no see,” which is viewed as derogatory towards those of Asian descent.

Al-Saloom believes inclusive language is important at CSU.

“(It) incorporates identities without the binary,” Al-Saloom said. She does not believe it is okay to say “you guys,” but expressed a willingness to educate. “I’m not gonna try and change them, but educate them.”

We have been asked to phase out phrases from our language that we hear every day outside of this campus. However, we were never asked if we felt these terms were not inclusive, we were told.

“As a woman, I feel excluded when the term ‘you guys’ is used,” said Lauren Rodgers, the Director of Residential Development for Residence Hall Association, an organization on campus that strongly emphasizes inclusive language.

A question I would pose to all women on this campus is, do you actually feel excluded by the term “you guys,” or were you told that “you guys” excludes you?

Of course people were, including you. You were tricked into posting and I suspect even believing a lie. There no shame in it, if it only happens very rarely. We all make mistakes, just as you did. The article you quoted made a crucial claim which just wasn't the truth, and was carefully manipulated to deceive their audience. Hopefully you'll spot it next time and post the more factually accurate content as you subsequently posted above.

So your saying that the University is not changing the language of the University? :135:

But you posted the language change? Huh? :135:

Nowhere in the original article does it make the claim that the CSU "administrators have designated the common greeting “long time, no see” as non-inclusive language." as you claimed. In fact, there is nothing in the original article to say who deemed the term offensive, only that it has been deemed so by someone, somewhere and at sometime. For instance, I could decide that the word liar as to refer to people like Paul J. Watson, the authors on "Reason".com, etc. is an offensive term, and Leibee could add it to the article as one of the terms deemed offensive and the resulting article would be just as factually correct. You see, the original article is an opinion piece in a student newspaper, and it's rather light on facts, probably intentionally. Those who then decided to read into the article and extrapolate claims clearly not supported by the original, and also change the facts from the original article are clearly manipulating their readers. They are not interested in the truth, just in making people believe a lie, or to put it another way, to play them. I suspect the original article was also written to manipulate as it clearly references sources completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. For instance, the inclusive language guide referenced "The Department of Education released an inclusive language guide in 2012" is actually one from Tasmania and has nothing to do with CSU whatsoever. That said, I don't have particularly high expectations for an opinion piece from a student's newspaper.

D.C. Bureaucrats Are Trying to Make Parents Get a License to Let Children Play Together

According to a recent Washington Post article written by Karin Lips of the Network of Enlightened Women, “Some DC government officials now are trying to regulate the program, which they contend is an illegal child-care facility.” The Office of the State Superintendent of Education investigated the playgroup cooperative in early September and issued a statement saying the group is violating child care facility laws and must get a license to operate.

Too political because it will teach people about the palm oil crisis that is happening to the rainforests.

Unfortunately, with some people, this is not a rare occurrence as they have pretty much abandoned all credible sources for news and information and have decided instead to embrace the completely unaccountable alternative fringe element. It is not so much that they only allow themselves to be fooled, but seemingly seek the opportunity. The right - so easily played.

To those interested in such things as preserving natural habitats of endangered wildlife, you might want to have a look at the 25 palm oil name designations used in almost everything we purchase.

Sustainable palm oil production is out there too and labelled accordingly.

Yes, but there are editors and people who would have read it... THOUGHT it was a good article or something they should post and then put it up.

There are checks and balances unless you have a long track record of being a reputable contributor/journalist. This had to have been screened by at least someone in power, probably a couple of people.

Ban students from rich families from using/wearing or otherwise having more expensive items in the school. Apparently it's working, why shove wealth in others faces. Everyone is happier and less triggered.

To hear it from them.

Bingo, They are all responding to what they have been brainwashed, taught and drilled into them.
Everything has something to do with being against them. Offending them.
All OK with the instances when millions of times the word,"Women" or "the girls" is used when it comes to themselves. Women classes, groups, services, special days, organizations. Turn it around to say "men" or "guys"and its now sexism.
Society has brain wash them so far that they have no ability to see anything else, to take ownership, to do anything but just complain.
