Twins? Triplets? No, it's a litter.
MEXICO CITY - A Mexican woman is pregnant with nine babies - six girls and three boys - the country's main broadcaster Televisa reported on Thursday night.
The woman was identified as Karla Vanessa Perez of the northeastern state of Coahuila, which borders Texas. She is currently being treated at a hospital in the state capital Saltillo, the broadcaster said in the report.
Perez, whose age was not given, had fertility treatment leading to the multiple pregnancy, it said.
State-owned news agency Notimex also reported the pregnancy, saying Perez was due to give birth on May 20.
"It's very early to think of names for the babies," Perez told Notimex. "First I hope that everything goes well."
The successful delivery of nonuplets would be one of the highest multiple births ever recorded.
In 2009, a woman in California gave birth to octuplets, sparking worldwide media attention.

Re: Twins? Triplets? No, it's a litter.
I wonder how many weeks gestation the babies will be when they're born? I'm assuming the date given (May 20) is for the scheduled cesarean and not her due date. Hopefully the babies do well and that mom has a good support system to take care of them.
It makes you wonder, with cases like this, just how responsible these doctors actually are. Certainly a few eggs could have split into twins but with nine babies I would guess that approximately 6-12 embryos were implanted into this woman and that is insane! It is dangerous for the mother to have such a high risk pregnancy. It is dangerous for the babies, as higher order multiples are micro preemies at birth the health effects can be life threatening and lifelong. And just how would a mother manage nine newborns? I just don't think it is ethical for specialists to create a pregnancy with that many babies..and it's unbelievable that some mothers would request that many be implanted.

....an interesting twist!
Report of Mexican woman pregnant with 9 babies not true
The story of a woman in Mexico pregnant with nine babies is false, spokesmen from a Mexican newspaper said Friday, April 27.
According to El Diario de Coahuila, a newspaper in the northeastern state of Coahuila, Karla Vanessa Perez lied about receiving fertility treatments that resulted in the fertilization of nine embryos.
Not only is Perez' story of the multiple fertilization not true, she is not pregnant at all, spokesmen said.
"She made it up," a newspaper official said. "And, because the number of babies would break the world record, everyone just ran with it."
Perez also does not have triplets, as reported by some media outlets Friday. She does, however, have three children, 15, 12 and 4. According to records, Perez underwent a tubal ligation procedure after giving birth to her youngest child to prevent further pregnancies.
Officials at the Mexican Society of Gynaecology and Urology said Perez likely made up the story because she is unconsciously seeking help for emotional problems.

I thought it was strange. She was carrying 9 babies and is due on May 20th. For her to be that far along with so many babies is what had me wondering. Each extra baby that a woman carries you take off two weeks from the due date.
