Are you rich? What does it mean to be rich?

A person who has a $500,000 house paid for, but not much income
and has to work every day or else he doesn't eat, is not rich.

A person who makes an extremely high wage, but owes hundreds of thousands
of dollars on his house, and has to work every day or else he doesn't eat is not rich.
when his job ends - he is instantly poor.

A construction worker who has a $40,000 truck, and a Honda Quad, and a Seadoo
and other toys, but owes money on his house is not rich.

How much money should a person be worth, to be considered rich?

rich doesn't need to be about money
it can be about lifestyle
it can be about personal satisfaction

I am rich, yet so many would disagree
it's not for them to define
it's up to me to call that

I'm very rich
and proud

I think a lot of people are on board with the thinking that money alone doesn't make you rich. Of course you typically need enough to make your life comfortable, but for some people that comfort requires very little money.

Richness is a mindset, not a bank statement.

Some very wealthy money-rich people are mentally and emotionally very poor - some are destitute.

I work very little and make enough to pay cash for about anything I want accept for a house. I feel I'm rich in time. I also make less then many people who are in huge debt and have no time. I also travel several times a year, all paid for at the end of the month. Time is money and I have lots of time. I feel rich in that respect.

I'll be rich as soon as I figure out the way to monetize sarcasm.

I would be wealthy if you could teach me when you do.

I was just contemplating this last night.

My neice and nephew are not rich.
The relatives they live with are.
But my niece and nephew are hovered over day and night.
They have a pool and lots of stuff.

Never have to make a decision, or a mistake, can't walk the streets where they are, have to have body guards.
My nephew inadvertantly got left alone on a sidewalk outside his exclusive school. And collapsed in tears.
Never had to be alone before.
They live where kidnapping is a lucrative crime.
They can't bike, hike, walk, or play outside their house walls.

We lived in the Canadian equivelant to a hovel.
But we played in fields, streams, ponds and rode our bikes everywhere.
"Go outside" was mom and dads mantra.
We did. We dug in the garden.
No one was trying to kidnap us.
We learned to handle situations. Problems. Decision make. Had our heart broken, and learned to toughen up.

They are chaparoned all day. Never been in the house by themselves. Never dug in the fridge for a snack.
The cook does that.
We learned to handle phone calls and pay for things at the till. I even wonder if either one of them has.

OMIGOD!

I grew up rich.

We all say we are rich because the things that matter - the importan things - are not money.

but the fact is - most people are throwing away the important things - for money.

If the image below is true, most Canadians are richer than most other people in the world.
Or maybe we're poorer.

Most perhaps but not the likes of which amuse themselves in a frugal activity like posting on a forum. We have more money ,we have become more self indulgent .more vain and fashion style oriented.more American.Gone is the plain and simple ,frugal and common sensed Canadian. Now in a desperate attempt to create an identity we are trying to be like our tacky big brother to the south.
I resist .To say Im proud or rich is too American .Food in your belly, a roof over your head ,cold beer at hand, good neibours, good friends .good cheer, warm fire and I am a CONTENT Canadian .Let them greedy yanks get rich.

I associate rich with things like oysters or dark chocolate. Those things are rich.
I think I'm well off, rich no, If you were to eat me you'd prolly still be hungry.
