Huh? I've seen it reported all over the place.

It's on CNN's front page right now.

This guy appears to have been a complete rogue. Alleged he also ran a "pill mill" for addicts. $250K under the mattress? Paying an untrained person $10/hr "off the books" to administer drugs?

But he isn't charged with the inflated 16,000 number. 7 illegal abortions, not 16,000. Although the 7 is probably only what they could prove.

He's charged with 7 counts of first-degree murder in the infant deaths, and third-degree murder in the overdose death of a patient.

The Department of State literally licensed Gosnell’s criminally dangerous behavior. DOH gave its stamp of approval to his facility.
These agencies do not deservethe public’s trust. The fate of Karnamaya Mongar and countless babies with severed spinal cords is proof that people at those departments were not doing their jobs. Those charged with protecting the public must do better.

1: In 1993, “the Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics...The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be ‘putting a barrier up to women’ seeking abortions. Better to leave clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and babies would pay.” (Page 9)
2: “We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color, because the victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion.” (Page 13)

Gov't Indifference,
If you don't know anyone 'important', you're from a poor/minority neighbourhood, not fluent in English, scared or just otherwise not newsworthy guess what....
You don't make the news, which is what happened here and once the trial started the gag order ensured there would still be no coverage till the powers that be were ready.

Sure it's on the news - I read the story 2 years ago on CBC, mostly likely because it was re-posted on Castanet), but this practice has been going on for 40 years without much in the way of press coverage. Even after the charges, very little was said, and the press gallery was pretty much empty when the trial began.

It didn't take CBC long to bury it down into the back pages, by the way, and the only reason CNN put it on their headlines is because they were shamed into covering the case.

Why this is the case, I do not know or fully comprehend. It could be because it does not fit into the narrative that abortion doctors are always the good guys and the the abortion protesters are always the bad guys, or more likely, on a philosophical level many of us believe that when the intent to terminate is there, and things go sideways, following through with the termination post-birth should be allowed.

The guy, if found guilty, could turn out to be the biggest mass murderer in U.S. history, so it is surprising to see such little coverage (even if he's killing the unwanted). I suppose it could be compared to the Willy Pickton case or the Highway of Tears. Prostitutes aren't really wanted by society, so the public, media, and police didn't really follow the story until shamed into doing so.

You've got pro-lifers going to thee extreme of killing doctors who perform the procedures. These people are crazy.
You've got a pro-choice dotor going to the extreme of killing babies. This person is crazy.
There's always going to be extremes.
So is the argument for pro-life/anti abortion. We've got a sick *bleep* here, ban abortion?

Obviously someone was paying attention; he got life on one count for murder with an additional 30-60 years for two counts of attempted murder.
Praise the lord and pass the ammunition
