DST - why bother?!

Post by flamingfingers »

This weekend we "spring ahead" an hour and spend up to 2 weeks adjusting our body clocks.

Do we really need to bother with this time change twice a year?

Most countries don't bother (countries in blue use DST):

Never bothered in Saskatchewan, and from what I could see, everyone survived just fine.

I vote to scrap it.

From that map, it looks like Northeastern BC (Fort Nelson) doesn't use DST. Learned something new today!

Also, if we didn't use it, would be stay on the summer schedule or the winter schedule? If I could pick either or, it would be the summer one, I prefer to have some daylight on the way home from work.

I love DST!!! Its my favourite "season". It takes me no time to adjust to the change - physically or mentally I don't notice a thing different.

Leave it on DST, pick one and leave it.

^Yes, pick one or the other and don't keep messing with it twice a year.

Wouldn't notice a thing different if they left it alone either.

A day in Saskatchewan is a day just the same as everywhere else, just without trickery twice a year.

I agree and especially living in the valley, there is so much more you can do outside with that extra hour of sunlight after work than you can before work. I wish they would leave it on.

^^ I like that one, but in reality we do get an hour extra of sunlight in the evening because we lose one in the morning, which doesn't have to mean we gain an hour in the day.

I dislike DST because I'm an early riser (shut up dad), so I get to experience waking up to the sunshine just long enough to really HATE being thrown back into darkness for a few more weeks.

What sun!!?? This is the most dreary place in the world, I am sure. Wake up to fog, rain, snow....pretty much anything but sun here other than a few select weeks of "summer".

One day, I'd like to live a lifestyle where I don't even care about DST. People would be telling me "Hey, your watch needs to be adjusted, DST happened like 2 weeks ago." It might involve being retired and completely financially independent to the point if I wake up ever day at noon it won't affect me at all. Or homeless.
