It is possible, as you said... that he was so excited that he forgot to actually give good service. It's possible he was calling her friends to tell them, taking photos of him with her phone, asking for autographs, etc....
It could be hard to remember to do your job, when you're acting like a papparazzo.

Tipping has been a long standing tradition in the service industry. Good servers in good restaurants make good money because they are good servers in good restaurants (paid my way through university). I know some people cannot afford to tip extravagantly, but good servers still serve them well because they know they are promoting themselves and their restaurant and word gets around - and even most people on a tight budget factor in tip money if they’ve made the decision to eat in a restaurant that provides table service. The jerk in this story should only be allowed in McDonalds.
Wow, you sure took sides without knowing any information whatsoever.
A guy goes to get dinner and receives poor service, he tips $0.20. He claims bad service.
The owner of the establishment claims that he was a jerk. The owner pays his employees less than $3.00/hr.
It seems to me that the owner is the actual jerk. The fact that the football player is a millionaire is utterly irrelevant.
Come quickly Jesus, we're barely holding on.

The guy claims bad service but being rude to the waiter (as claimed) is also unacceptable. The suggestion the football player could have handled it differently is reasonable.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

You mean, like tackle her or something?

Is he good at it?
The owner went on to dismiss reports the McCoy and his party received poor service as ‘a complete slanderous lie.’

Agreed, but that's irrelevant when it comes to tips. If you've worked in hospitality, you've dealt with rude customers and are still expected to act professional and offer great customer service.

There is no reason to believe the server didn't offer good customer service.

There's no reason to believe the guy had no reason to hold the tip.

She probably asked him if he "wanted change". (I hate that).

According to the auction's description, the winning bid will go to the PYT staff. "With your help we'll be able to leave the largest tip possible to all PYT employees for their hard work and dedication," the description on eBay reads.
Bidding for the receipt ends Saturday.
