Funeral Etiquette!?

Post by Sige »

I went to a funeral on Thursday and in the middle of the eulogy AND prayer the woman behind me was CLIPPING HER FINGERNAILS. Really, really loudly. Not just one, errant, poor little snagged fingernail...ALL OF THEM. I was horrified!

It's been a very long time since I've been in church. Please tell me this is not socially acceptable???

And yes...I waited for her to look my way then I gave her the most skeevy stink eye I could muster until she stopped. OMG!!

That is unbelievable and sad!
Good for you for sending daggers her way... wondering why anyone beside her didn't say anything.

Better than chewing on them, I suppose.

I remember golfing with this one guy when we came up on to the third tee box which looked on to a fairway running parallel to the main road. We were getting ready to tee off when suddenly a funeral procession started to drive by. This guy put down his driver, turned toward the procession, bowed his head and clasped his hands and stood in silence until the procession passed.

“Wow!’ I said. “that was very respectful”.

“Well I was married to her for thirty years”

Is it okay to pop the top of my beer can at the funeral of my drinking buddy? It was an hour long service and by the time I opened the 3rd can, people were making SSSshhhhh sounds, (you know like the sound of pulling up a pull-tab slowly) I think they had a problem with the "click" sound the can made as I folded the tab over.
I deduce that there is something wrong with "Click" sounds at funerals. Like nail clipping and beer tab popping.
However, I didn't see any of the old folks getting the "stink-eye" when their arthritic joints clicked.

My experience with FUNerals is that people get right weird around the whole deal.

Clipping of fingernails during funerals (and during many other social gatherings) is poor manners...unless one is in redneck territory.
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

Part of being a Redneck is not knowing boundaries.

I'd go so far as to say clipping fingernails anywhere in public is bad form.

Ha I get to argue with the Boss Mod.
If a Bass Guitar player hasn't played for a few days, he/she may find that a fingernail has grown on the right hand, and it needs to be cut right now. Does he leave the stage or just cut it off?

Okay, I'll give you that one, and if the guitarist is in a heavy metal band he can tear it off and spit it into the crowd, lol.

Or spits the nail at the drummer and throws himself at the crowd.

I would never have heard, what with spending all my time blubbering and trying not too look like I am.

Now, had she moved on to her toe nails after the digits were done, then I think we might have had a problem.

I'm pretty sure worse things have been done at funerals.
