Money well spent. Science should be, and should continue to be, well funded.
Last I checked, we aren't a socialist country. There doesn't exist a reason why the government should give money to particularly private businesses.
I'm as far from a Harper supporter as one can be without being insanely delusional, but contributing funds to science is one of the better decisions he's made.

holy crap what a waste of taxpayer money!! The Government needs a complete overhaul, decisions like this should be left to the people, let us vote on individual huge expenditures like this. I would think giving that money back to Canadians would be a great start.

The Canadarm was just over one hundred million dollars to build, but solidified Canada's role in a potentially rewarding industry both economically and scientifically.

There are far better places to reduce funding. How about our military? Twenty-two billion per year. Fourteenth in the world.

As long as it was appropriately budgeted and didn't come out of a social spending account, I don't think this is an issue at all.
Anyone (who cares) can be well-informed on government budgets and spending, and not everything should be going to a referendum.

The anti science tribes will be up in arms, but anyone with curiosity about our universe, and a desire to learn new things will be happy to see science being funded.
How the h3ll did this get past steve, we may be looking at events that occurred billions of (er 5000) years ago using this telescope

Look at what Canadians are willing to spend on homes? Surprised to see this kind of bitching about overspending...
