Is champagne charlies RIP? It looks like the opportunities for live stripping through school in a safe controlled environment could be declining unless you do the live internet shows.
And could the “Young men more interested in electronics” actually mean the sex trade on the internet too, including the escort sites?
It’s more private and a lot of the porn is available for free. New entrepreneurs, although arranging your own dates with strangers could be very risky. No doorman or someone live to collect the cover charge. The new cover charge is to track you online and sell your data to unknown analysts.

Strip clubs closing due to lack of demand across Canada, says industry insider
Young men more interested in electronics than live strippers, says Adult Entertainment Association of Canada

By Daybreak South, CBC News Posted: Mar 20, 2015 1:05 PM PT Last Updated: Mar 20, 2015 6:56 PM PT

Strip clubs are becoming less popular with young men, says the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada, leading many venues to close their doors.

Strip clubs closing across Canada 8:29

Strip clubs, with flashy signs advertising nude dancers, once had a strong footing in downtown centres across Canada.

But as Cheetah's Show Lounge in Kelowna, B.C. closes its doors, an adult industry insider says strip clubs are an endangered species being killed off by lack of demand.

"The market demand for adult entertainment clubs is a male around a certain age," Tim Lambrinos, director of the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada, told Daybreak South's Chris Walker.

"It seems that young Canadian males are more distracted with other types of interests — Game Boys, plugging in things and so on and it's almost as if the young women are the ones bringing them out to the clubs now."

Cheetah's closure leaves only one strip club in the city of more than 100,000 residents. According to the association, that trend is the same in other big cities — Toronto had 63 strip clubs a decade ago, now it only has 14.

Lambrinos admits licensed clubs are plagued with the perception they are tied to crime and unsavoury characters, but claims that doesn't match with the reality.

"In terms of crime, even public complaints, the licensed adult entertainment clubs were the bottom of the list when it came to public complaints.

"There were nail salons and hair salons and barber shops, restaurants that got far more complaints."

A spokesperson for the City of Kelowna said Cheetah's received three noise complaints and four requests to clean up graffiti since 2011, which he said is "pretty typical" for an after-hours business.

RCMP in Kelowna told the CBC they don't have any particular concerns with strip clubs in the city.

Here’s the podcast from CBC Kelowna with a funny on the street interview—LOL sounds like it could be somebody from the forum here.

Yeah these types of closures may have something to do with some of the more than 129,000 Canadian university students signing up to seekingarrangement.com. which is in the second article I posted at the beginning of this thread.

I almost forgot.

Thanks Castanet for having articles that look talormade for this thread.

Interesting that the article I just mentioned above about the online escorts at seekingarrangement.com was from the Maritimes.

Maybe this one has something to do with BC's new signups.

Gotta go.

B.C. university students rank third highest in student debt in Canada, according to data from Statistics Canada.

The data, compiled into an interactive map by Consolidated Credit Counseling Services of Canada, shows students who graduate from the maritime provinces carry the most debt on average, with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia taking the top two spots at $35,200 and $30,400, respectively.

B.C.’s students graduate with $29,000 in debt on average. The Canadian average is $22,300, which is heavily skewed downwards by Quebec’s low average student debt, $11,900.

The figures only take into account federal student loans and are taken from the 2010 graduating class.

This data is a good indicator of where to find the cheapest post-secondary education, in terms of tuition, housing and living costs.

“Reputation and campus life are all important things to consider when choosing a school,” said Jeff Schwartz, executive director of Consolidated Credit, in a statement. “But from a financial standpoint, choosing the right province could save you a lot of money.”

Schwartz said regardless of the school one chooses, having a budget, working a part-time job and being frugal through your university years are vital in leaving university with minimal debt.

Actually the podcast to go with the CBC article is of interest itself.
Some hilarious chose words near the start, as in the article.
And like I said the Castanet forum sounding guy on the street from Kelowna is kind of funny.
But then the rest talks about student workers as male and female strippers verses prostitutes, and how the student club performers have doubled over the last 3 years from 15 to 25 % and is now at 25 to 50 %. Could that be because the number of clubs is declining? Same fish smaller pond?
Interesting that it looks like online escort sites like seekingarrangement.com is booming with student workers too.
An aside, it looks like the guy strippers get more harrassed by the women than the females get harrassed by the men.
But then since, as the expert radio guest says, it looks like the live entertainment industry still could be in trouble all over Canada, the competitive demand for students could be moving them on to the the not so nice massage parlors.
It looks like there’s plenty of workers needed in all areas since the foreign worker laws got changed to protect them from exploitation.
But he doesn't consider the student workers could be going to the internet as self managed performers, where their age group of consumers could be going too, or even more dangerous, they could be turning into unprotected online escorts.
Maybe he thinks talking about that could be against his best intrests as he might hope people would like to see the clubs revived because the massage parlors can cause all kinds of problems since they are more meant for, as he said, “The pervert market.”

Pornland: Excerpt from the Film with Gail Dines

Nothing explicit to see, still you have to be brave to watch this excerpt from the Gail Dines documentary Pornland.
This is the industry that potential student sex workers, who are in such straits that they feel they can’t avoid joining, will be contributing to and, by that, risking the futurer social conditions of their peers and our children.

FINDINGS REVEALED FROM STUDENTS INVOLVED IN SEX WORK PROJECT
Written by The Editorial Team

Findings revealed from students involved in sex work project
Support for students engaged in the sex industry is now vital according to the findings of The Student Sex Work Project.

The largest study on student attitudes to student participation in the sex industry has found that nearly 5% of UK students have worked in the sex industry, more male students than female students are likely to be involved, nearly 22% of students have considered working in the sex industry and training for Universities for the necessary support is now needed.

The academic research with more than 6,750 students across the UK was carried out by Dr Tracey Sagar and Debbie Jones of Swansea University’s Centre for Criminal Justice and Criminology and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The research reveals that students take up a range of occupations in the sex industry. Occupations included direct sex work, where there is direct contact with clients such as prostitution, escorting and selling sex from off street establishments, and independently through the internet. It also includes indirect sex work which does not involve direct contact with clients such as phone chat sex, web cam work, erotic dancing, stripping and glamour modelling. Some students are also engaged in auxiliary and organisational occupations such as drivers and escort managers.

Positive and negative aspects

Support

Reality

The importance of providing the right support for student sex workers is emphasised by Dr Sagar. She said: “Our research has not been about encouraging students into sex work it has been about supporting students who are in sex work. And this is the reality, students are engaged in sex work occupations – this is a fact. Another fact is that some of them need advice, support and sometimes assistance to step away from the industry. At the moment students feel so stigmatised and judged that they are afraid or at least very reluctant to disclose their occupations to staff and services at Universities that could help them. Stereotyping is also a problem. A significant finding of the research is that more males are involved in sex the sex industry than is commonly thought. Of the men that responded to the survey, 5% said they were involved in the sex work, whereas nearly 3.5% of the women that took part in the survey said they were involved with sex industry. Sex work is widely but wrongly perceived to be an occupation that is predominantly taken up by women and this means that males may fall through the student support net because they are not associated with sex work occupations.”

Mrs Jones explains the project’s next steps: “All students should feel that they can seek help if they need it and this includes students who are engaged in the sex industry. We are very thankful to Swansea University for taking the lead and supporting this research project that will now go on to develop guidance and training that will be available to all Universities in the UK.”

Education and support strategies to keep students from being lured by initial promise of fast money and glamour. There is nothing glamorous about it and once in, it' hard to get out. Physical safety and health risks deterioration of self-esteem, risk of being pulled deeper into the world of sex trade and pornography and drugs that often go with it are more reality that students considering it tend to dismiss and rationalize .
