Bullying

Post by SmokeOnTheWater »

I myself have never been a victim of bullying but I have witnessed someone being bullied.
The type of bullying I have witnessed was the verbal type.
That person simply removed himself from that situation.
How about you ?
Have you ever been bullied and what did you do about it ?

Verbal
This is any bullying that is done by speaking. Calling names, spreading rumors, threatening somebody, and making fun of others are all forms of verbal bullying. Verbal bullying is one of the most common types of bullying. In verbal bullying the main weapon the bully uses is their voice.

Studies have shown that envy and resentment may be motives for bullying. Research on the self-esteem of bullies has produced equivocal results. While some bullies are arrogant and narcissistic, they can also use bullying as a tool to conceal shame or anxiety or to boost self-esteem: by demeaning others, the abuser feels empowered. Bullies may bully out of jealousy or because they themselves are bullied. Psychologist Roy Baumeister asserts that people who are prone to abusive behavior tend to have inflated but fragile egos. Because they think too highly of themselves, are frequently offended by the criticisms and lack of deference of other people, and react to this disrespect with violence and insults.

These days people label anything they don't like as "bullying". The word completely lost its meaning.

"Our boss bullies us into doing work"
"My mom bullies me because she forces me to do the dishes"
"My wife bullies me because she doesn't allow seeing other people"

When I was growing up bullying meant somebody hunting you continually, beating you, and making your life hell. Now bulling means somebody making you uncomfortable.

No, they really don't.

I was bullied while working at a grocery store here. I told a manager who exclaimed, "oh yeah, that guy gets grumpy sometimes." Nothing was really done so I completely changed my hours around to avoid the guy.

Rescheduling your work schedule "a large portion of your life" is not how an adult should deal with that situation.

Just my opinion.

I just fight back - I don't have time for them or their BS.

Quite simple really. Just turn to them and say "Get *bleep* Bent" and walk away. If they insist on more, break their nose and continue walking.

Getting one's nose broke though can lead to a lifetime of regret. The one being bullied isn't always the winner if one steps up.

Standing up for yourself can be very empowering vs. crawling into a corner and feeling sorry for yourself.

Coming to the realization that they were insecure people making poor choices made me 100% embrace their dislike of me; it meant I was different, and that's better than the alternative. After that, posture changed and so did how they looked at me.

humour and walking away works in some situations to throw them off but may be easier for younger adults than kids to come up with quick response. Best not to counter in kind unless you are ready to battle.

e.g.
teasing about some physical characteristic like big ears " yep got my gene pool (dad/mom) to thank for these.
teasing about being a wimp "yep didn't eat my spinach today"

also Avoiding and ignoring bullies when possible but walk proud. It is the bullies that have the problem - not you.,

My research shows Nisha Moodley (life coach) as the original author so far.
