Homeless Veterans - INEXCUSABLE !!!
Homeless Veterans - INEXCUSABLE !!!
http://www.castanet.net/news/Canada/174 ... eless-vets
I'm disgusted and absolutely floored by these numbers.
I became aware of this issue when one of our Veterans, Arthur Horton, was run down and left to die in a ditch off Sexsmith Road.
Turned out he was homeless.
These are the people we owe EVERYTHING to!!!
WHAT THE HECK ARE WE DOING!!???

How about we turn the safe injection sites into shelters for our homeless veterans? I'd support that.

Exactly, you nailed it with 1 word inexcusable
Governments ask for these people's service, then when that service is up or they are injured. They are forgotten, everyone needs to demand better for those who are willing to serve our Country here aboard.

What Veterans need is someone at head of Veterans Affairs who actually had boots on the ground and not a pencil pusher. Ottawa has far to many of those goofs.

I wonder why so many veterans end up homeless.

many and varied reasons
it used to be that military pensions didn't amount to much. Not sure if they ever adjusted that for all vets.
I know many have serious mental issues. The old methods used to create the perfect soldier were not the best for a person's noodle. Add in some PTSD, an addiction or two...or three.
No matter what they have going on, they deserve to be provided with the basics at the very least.
Food
Shelter
Clothing

They're broke ?
Hey , even our "Prime " Minister gave the boot to active soldiers in Ontario so "refugees" could have their barracks...

Re: Homeless Veterans - INEXCUSABLE !!!
This topic is very close to my heart.
Our Canadian Veterans are often treated shamelessly.
Unless someone has served in active duty its hard to understand or
comprehend what our Veterans have faced or are facing.
They come home, get decommissioned and sent along their way.
Often times the time of service they have served affects our Veterans,
and their families, in adverse ways for the rest of their lives.
I'm glad this discussion has been started.

Curious.
If you remove those with PTSD and those who come back physically injured often two of the same.
For the rest of veterans, is there a higher rate of addiction or homelessness than the rest of the population? If so why?

Re: Homeless Veterans - INEXCUSABLE !!!
The way they have treated soldiers from the beginning has been foul.
The farther one goes back, the worse it seems to look.
Not that we've come out of the darkness in that respect.
Our vets are still treated less than adequate.
Our military in general are not treated adequately.
Push them into environments that form immediate and deep scars, then send them for a few days on an all inclusive beach. Sounds fine, but what it amounts to is drinking into oblivion for a few days in a foreign land.
Then, they send you home to greet the family you haven't seen since back in the good ol' days before seeing what those monsters do to ...
They send them for an evaluation they dare not submit their truth to, for fear of losing their career.
Nope. All is fine.
On your way.
I cannot imagine, and am thankful for that, what our vets go through. The things they have seen.
