They’re more like Devon, a programmer I met who helps maintain a security-software service in Portland, Oregon. He isn’t going to get fabulously rich, but his job is stable and rewarding: It’s 40 hours a week, well paid, and intellectually challenging. “My dad was a blue-collar guy,” he tells me—and in many ways, Devon is too.

I think the article is spot on.
People have been crying "Technology will steal all our jobs" for over a century now. That's not what happens. Jobs evolve.
Look at the construction industry. Very different than it was 50 years ago. Holes aren't dug with shovels anymore, wood isn't cut with a handsaw, etc.
Computers and technology have replaced many jobs - and created many new ones. Robots and automation will do the same.
