Social, economic and environmental issues in our ever-changing world.

Is it time for Women's Sports to go Extinct?

Postby Glacier » Jun 6th, 2017, 4:03 pm

“No, girls, you don’t get your own bathrooms anymore. You don’t get your own leagues. You don’t get your own identity. Not if men want in. Shut up and let the man beat you. Let him take your gold medal. Let him disrobe in front of you. Let him do what he wants. You have no choice. The proclivities and fetishes of men must come first. The desire that you may have to retain and defend your own unique identity is transphobic. Shame on you. Your feelings are not legitimate.”

Andraya, who has access to the female locker room but changes privately

She - not him - is changing privately

Transgender issues aren't fetishes. Please read up on the subject.

Why does he need to read up on the subject when he is quoting from the article?

Wow, what rubbish. I was hoping the article was satirical, but no.

And what the heck is a leftist?

I guess I missed that part since the article is entirely a disgusting smear piece to tear down a member of the LGBTQ community.

If the article writer had any sense of objectivity at all, he would have included the facts that this child changes separately and is soon going to be undergoing hormone therapy and eventually sex-reassignment surgery.

Shame on the article writer for being such a hateful bigot and shame on anyone who actually buys into this crap. And people wonder why the LGBTQ community want parades......yeah a mystery to be sure.

All it takes is a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone else. A few gay men (or even straight men) who want to win at all costs know that the Williams sisters aren't any better than an average college male, will jump at the opportunity to win for the ladies. Men are like that. If the guy wants to compete as a chick, he (she?) should transition first so he doesn't have an unfair advantage.

Just keep women's beach volleyball the way it is.

The "guy" in the article you posted is 15 (a child), most likely has no job, is still in high school, and I'm sure has no way whatsoever to pay for surgery at the present time. If you actually bothered to look up other articles about the topic - you know, instead of the smear-job one you posted - you'd see that she's planning hormone therapy in June (so I guess this month) and then sex surgery at a later date when I assume she actually has the resources.

If you actually want to discuss "bad apples" ruining sports for people, can you please find an article that supports this view in an objective way? Because all you've done is post an article that trashes the LGBTQ community by tearing down a child, no less.

There are a mere handful of these sensationalist stories of transgender people playing in supposedly the wrong sport. Know why? Because there aren't that many transgendered people in the world. This isn't some big epidemic and from the few articles I've seen the athletes actually seem to be sincere and have plans to have sexual reassignment surgery or have already undergone or started the process.

If that was really the message, you would have just said so. There's another agenda here besides just sticking up for female athletes. It's pointing out how icky and creepy and wrong transgender persons are. Neither you or I are too dumb to read between the lines and see that.

No need to make slanderous statements. I don't care if you're gay or transsexual or transracial or transspecies. Whatever floats your boat, but if you have an advantage because you are taking steroids or have an actual male body physically speaking (testosterone and the whole nine yards), you are competing with an unfair advantage. Even if you are a transsexual that truly identify as a woman, scientifically speaking, you're not actually a women in the physical sense.

What you've written here is miles from what you opened the thread with. Why didn't you just say the above, if that's what you meant?

Was I not supposed to believe you agreed with the sentiment in the article?

Are you, or "The Blaze" generally interested in women's sport outside of this issue?

I really have to laugh at this statement. You posted an article that personally attacks an athlete as well as his parents, but you're taken aback by other comments that you deem to be slanderous. Whatever.

Glacier wrote:but if you have an advantage because you are taking steroids or have an actual male body physically speaking (testosterone and the whole nine yards), you are competing with an unfair advantage. Then you'll be glad to know that in the Olympics and NCAA, trans-women athletes have to have testosterone levels comparable to or below those of cisgender women. This requirement is slowly becoming a norm everywhere:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/do-transgender-athletes-have-an-unfair-advantage-at-the-olympics/2016/08/05/08169676-5b50-11e6-9aee-8075993d73a2_story.html?utm_term=.2e2d6ee9da04

To compete, a trans woman athlete is required only to declare her gender as “female” and have testosterone levels comparable to or below those of cisgender women. (Cisgender refers to folks whose biological sex matches their gender identity, the opposite of transgender.) These long-awaited changes are a big step forward in creating an equitable playing field — and they bring the IOC in line with the NCAA, which invoked a similar policy for college athletes.

The article also points to a study that concludes that hormone therapy leads trans women to experience a decrease in muscle mass, bone density, and other physical properties:

Published last year in the Journal of Sporting Cultures and Identities, the study showed that as testosterone levels approach female norms, trans women experience a decrease in muscle mass, bone density and other physical characteristics.
________________________________

I already know you're so totally not transphobic and accepting of people different from yourself, so clearly this article and applicable studies are enough to meet your demands that athletes compete at the same physical level? Or do you still have some problems?
