This thing about being mad at John A McDonald is wrong

Social, economic and environmental issues in our ever-changing world.

This thing about being mad at John A McDonald is wrong

Postby slimebucket » Aug 26th, 2017, 9:17 am

This issue is a cover up because it was NOT John that created residential schools, it was the royal family. This going on is an attempt to make the royal family look totally innocent while placing blame on someone else. It's wrong.

Even if its true, its a part of our history.

Changing history because we do not like what happened is wrong. Ignoring history because we do not like it is wrong.

The royal family had just as much to do with the creation of residential schools as John a Mcdonald did, so are we going to get rid of their statues, images, and what not?

Also, anyone ever see that Simpsons episode where Lisa uncovered the truth about silver tongue Jebidiah?

The Simpson's have become a voice of truth and expert writing amid the mouth breathing masses of reality TV.

Judging past people and life by contemporary ethics and values is imho flawed. Sure we can say for example, Genghis Khan (leaving Hitler out lol) was a bad man for conquering the steppes, and I'm quite sure that dastardly deeds were done, however he did nothing more or less than other emperors or tyrants. And I can't help but recognize the biological imperative- 22 million descendents. Winner

You cannot sweep history under the rug and pretend it didn't happen. What that will produce is "fake history" and leave future generations with a false sense of who they are and where they came from.

Then why hide the fact that MacDonald created the residential school system? Isn't that sweeping history under the rug?

Some evidence would be nice.

I totally agree. I am from the minority group and still think so.

The BASE problem people are not talking about is that until the early 1900's, we "HAD TO BE" racists to survive as we had wars all the time.

Last 100yrs of modern humankind is nothing like what it was before it. millions of yrs (or thousands of yrs for those Christians), we were in the same group of people so we can survive. Other tribes often meant enemies, and we had to protect ourselves from the outside harm.

Only things back then that showed who you were was not a Passport, but just your race and language. You see, this is why people have huge issues with people that speak a different language. Speaking a different language often meant that they are the enemy... so that is where some have this feeling of fear or rejection towards other races.

Considering the above, it is quite normal that this racism in us that is absolutely one of the hardest things to remove.
It is literally genetically engraved into us as it was part of survival.

So, having all that in mind. We must know how to deal with our emotions when you see other races. I think anyway...

I am not racist of course, but I had to mention this as NOBODY seems to talk about this at all anywhere.

What I said is a huge root cause of it, and we must understand this and teach people so we can make changes accordingly.

In reality, residential schools date back to New France and Catholic missionaries, long before Canada was brought into being. So really, it's a Pope thing...

It wasn't until the enactment of the British North America Act which was approved by Royal assent that Canadian government control of residential schools came into being. It wasn't John A. Mcdonald's idea, he was merely the elected leader at the time. Any politician in those days would have supported the concept. And BTW his name isn't spelled with a capital "D"!

White-washing history is simply dumb... Changing names because of one bad thing that he supported is even stupider...

We need to get Michelangelo's David torn down. Don't they realize that David was a polygamous womanizer who had a guy murdered to cover up the fact he slept with his wife. Plus, it might trigger people who find the Bible in general offensive, or who have suffered at the hands of Jews and Christians.

We need to take down Ghandi statues. The guy was a racist. But why stop there? Plato too had some major flaws too. We need to also remove all references to Emily Carr, Wilfrid Laurier, Jacques Cartier, and Tommy Douglas because they committed great sins in the past.

The scary thing is, you can't tell if I'm being serious or not given how loonie some people are about removing the past.

Holding accountability and judging people 150+ years ago by today's ideologies - what a hoot!
Nobody wants to hear your opinion. They just want to hear their own opinion coming out of your mouth.

Those who lived 150 years ago would probably be turning in their graves over modern ideologies.
